astrofenn has developed a species called hivedogs. I like the idea, I like the queens, and it's an endeavour that I'd like to support. As such, I started work on my very own hivedog. Since my "stable" was sorely lacking testosterone, I figured I'd try my hand at what I think is the first male hivedog. Meet Aegis!

I started out with some traits and tried to figure out a fitting look for him from there. Here's what I based him on:

- He's a "gentle giant"; tall (was thinking 7ish feet, not counting the ears), strong, a gentle and kind soul unless angered.
- He would die for hive. He's well aware that it's his genetic imperative coming to the fore, but he's perfectly fine with that.
- He loves the outdoors; if he can be out in nature, he will be.
- He loves flowers and will generally carry a few on his person (still trying to figure out where; tail might be a good place).
- He has a tendency to give said flowers to women/leave them in their hair, mostly because he likes to see them smile.
- He has great respect for the queens (Reggie in particular, of course) and will likely be formal to a fault.

I'm still working out the exact details, so more on him later. His body still needs a proper design, but I wanted to focus on getting his head right first. The tail is definitely a keeper, as I love the way those plates look.


P.S. The plates are supposed to be iridescent (had to have that "rainbow" in there somewhere :D). I had a hard time finding a way of colouring that which would work with my usual colouring style; I eventually settled on this. I quite like this effect and will likely use it myself, but it's certainly not set in stone.

P.P.S. Yep, a name with greek/latin roots. It seemed fitting, since Reggie comes from the latin word Regina, aka "queen".
