They're a small/medium breed, ranging from 15 to 30lbs and 14-16 inches at the withers, as per the standard. My Shiba is about 40lbs and 3+ inches taller than the standard.
I still wouldn't suggest them to everyone. My dog might be cute, but Shibas are a very tough breed for people to handle. And most Shibas end up being put in shelters and euthanized.
