Well... for a start, they're not airbrushed.
I use three layers:
1: Colour layer
2: Shadow layer set to multiply
3: Light Lyaer set to Overlay
The colour goes on in approxmately the right plces with a normal brush. From there, Iuse the smudge tool to refine the shape and smooth it all out.
