I used to own a Hi-Point JCP-40 and you can count me among the fanboys. Yeah, it's ugly as sin and has a single stack magazine, plus it could be used as an anchor for a small boat, but it's simplicity and durability is very good. Plus, my experience with their unlimited lifetime warranty and their customer service was very good. If you want a cheap pistol that's made in America, is dependable, and is decently accurate at short range, then go for a Hi-Point.

The magazines are shit, its top heavy, clunky, not very accurate past 10 yards and feels like a mailbox on a stick.

Only thing I would say positive is it would make a decent vehicle only gun. It goes bang if needed, if stolen or confiscated, you aren't crying a financial river.

i ALMOST bought one a few years ago for a cheap vehicle gun, New were running $189. Then I saw the Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 for $200.

The G2 fits better, holds better, stronger, holds 12 plus 1 in the pipe, stronger magazines, better sights, not clunky nor top heavy, accurate as hell and also has a lifetime warranty.

If I found a used Hi Point in decent shape for say , under $110, i MIGHT consider one as a pure vehicle gun.

Weird. I never had any problems with the mags. Keep in mind, it's meant to be a cheap gun. nothing super expensive. It was also never meant to be a super accurate gun, that's not what it was designed for. Simplicity, low cost, easy to maintain, easy to run, that's it.

That said, I never heard of the Taurus PT111 Millennium G2. However, Taurus customer service was shit when I dealt with it. It had a lifetime warranty, sure, but it took so damn long to get the gun back to me that I had given up the gun as lost in transport and bought a new gun in the interim. Gun people have long memories and don't forgive easily. I certainly won't forgive Taurus. I sold the gun once it came back to me. It wasn't even the same gun. They just replaced it without trying to fix the problem and the new gun was all sorts of ornery and full of issues.

Say what you will about Hi-Point, but you also have to say that it's cheap, it works, it's backed by unbeatable customer service, and it goes bang every time. In the end, that's all I wanted from it.

Might want to give Taurus a second look, Since your problems, they've canned a number of their top management and really buckled down on both build quality and customer service, as well as cutting their prices to more reasonable levels. In short, it's not the Taurus you used to deal with.

I do agree for the most part. But once you get the feed lips fixed on the magazines they’re actually a reliable and fairly accurate ‘gun’. Heavy, ugly, sure! But if you run it over with your truck and manage to mess it up, they’ll replace it..... nobody else offers that.

One of my friends had an original, unfired, Stored in the back of a closet for 20+ years, carbine. After I spent a week cleaning gummed up cosmoline and rust off of / out of it I got it firing. I tell ya what. For as UGLY as that gun was, I had an absolute BLAST wasting Winchester white box out of it!!!!

Admittedly I see that they offer a wide variety of calibers from 9mm-10mm. I could see one as a dedicated 'truck gun' if found one cheap (under $200).

Careful, someone might mistake it for a toy or squirt gun. That was a problem for bullpup designed shotguns back in the 1960's. Law enforcement would pull one out and the bad guys wouldn't know it was a shotgun and they were dropped from service pretty quickly. For it to make a bad guy pee his pants, it has to look like a gun he associates with lead poisoning.

Just some advice I got from an old SAS veteran, hard hat diver and general gun bad ass.

I already deal with potential Chunknuggets locally that 'Arm' themselves with Airsofts and regularly rob people thinking that using an airsoft will just get them a slap on the wrist. Cops and the Prosecuting City Attorney will cheerfully still charge them with using a weapon during a crime.

Plus in Milwaukee a few of the hood rats who tried to intimidate other gangbangers with airsofts, usually wind up dead or added holes in their bodies.

Here in Portland carrying an airsoft can get you shot by cops just like you were holding a real grown-up's gun.

Cops here have told me they fear some kid pulling the orange cap an airsoft and using them as a robbery piece, only to get shot by a legitimate gun owner. Teens with airsofts have been caught here using them to carjack cars and robbing runners on paths. Numeros cops that ate where I work have confirmed many of the airsofts would pass the 3 foot rule, especially in the dark.

I told the same cops I am afraid of shooting some dumbass kid who points one at me in a robbery attempt, they said that "if you are truly in fear of your life and drop the hammer on one, we will back you!"

Problem also is lately kids with real guns have been turning up, they busted a 13 year old here with a .380 (stolen) after they caught him stealing a car. He tried to run while wearing saggers and had both hands holding up the front of the pants due to the weight of the pistol.

Yeah, cops need to treat Airsoft guns like they're real. There's no way to be sure and they're under no obligation to get shot in order to find out. Not that the local Reds understand that. They never do.

Taurus has seriously gotten their shit together the past 3-5 years. Many of their newer designs are exceptionally well made, rugged. I especially like their Taurus PT111 Millennium G2 9mm. For the money (Around $225 new) its a fantastic and affordable carry/vehicle piece. and Tons better than the Hi Point and better made, more accurate.

Plus the Taurus 85 and 605 Revolvers are wonderful, affordable and the grips like they were molded to your hand.

Just picked up a very minty late 1980s Taurus 85 with Hogue grips, love it - my mountain biking carry piece, rides in a canvas sling bag. Had 2 bobcat encounters lately riding the trails near home - decided to get something carry that would fit the bag. Sights are dead on, action smooth. Can even hit the gym at the community center after a ride and no one knows whats in the bag.

Yeah...I had one of their POS revolvers back in the mid 90s; the .38Spl bore was over diameter so the rifling wouldn't grab the round. After sending it in for repairs, it came back with a bigger bore! ( I cut it lengthwise with a metal bandsaw and sent it back with a detailed note and the lead slugs I used to check the barrel.)

My "modern" (post 2016) 85? So much nicer, tight, and pretty accurate.

Dang, that is bad. checked mine, bore is in spec and it handles jacketed and lead rounds very well. Sounds like QC was non existant for a while with them. Had one of the long barrel Judges for a year. No issues but it was not a very good trail gun - swapped it for .45 Ruger Blackhawk convertible - been very happy with that.

Would there be any rules against painting the muzzle red? I know it's not a complete coverage, and there is some white there too.. but at a glance, that would look a lot like a replica/toy that has the orange plastic muzzle, indicating it is not a firearm... and then to actually be a firearm, could be akin to trying to disguise it.. I know, I'm getting weird ideas, I just think that's a bit too close for comfort. Basically, a wolf dressing badly as a sheep, and wondering why it caught the attention of the shepherd.

Interesting you would offer this, I had a guy whose pistol I took out of his hand (once I got across the room after kicking my glasses to him) using the "Rush Hour" VCR version of the movie researching the outtakes of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker taking a pistol away from each other! The robber's BB gun had the barrel tip painted black so it looked like a Glock 17.
The version that is shown on tv nowadays has a different method of taking a pistol out of someone's hand they edited it into all of the DVD's and all the ones shown on TV.

The original method works on any pistol, you just use your finger to take the gun out of another person's hand since no one has a death grip on a pistol with their thumb!

I thought of getting a Borchardt pistol since it is weird looking and unlikely to get stolen since no one could even find the caliber for it. From shooting friend's pistols and revolvers, I found out I am deadly accurate anyway shooting 'Wild west style' without aiming down the barrel. I have a Palmer Typhoon paintball gun and with the hopper on top gravity feed, you can't look down the barrel to aim. I got used to it, and aim a pistol the same way I am accurate to 300 feet away.

My friend's daughter was nearly murdered in surprise gang member attack in Hazel Park Michigan a few years earlier, she narrowly missed getting shot to death point blank by the shooter but her then-boyfriend Shaun screamed at the guy who was using a .25 caliber 2-inch barrel semi-auto throwaway, he missed two feet away from her, and emptied his gun in the ceiling and at my friend who came outside to yell at the guy.

I know when I am going to die because I believed my lifeline was kind of long, so being fearless went over to see if everyone was alright or needed an ambulance, I knew CPR and First Aid even back then, (1990) the police showed up from their station less than a half-mile away a half an hour later.

They just asked what happened and then tried to go after the shooter who had run across the nearby Freeway to get into Detroit. I told them the gun was probably thrown away a female member of the family that had gang ties frantically sped off to get her medicine at the drug store she claimed, I told the police that but they did not follow up on that.

I like the look of the Taurus Judge, to be honest. Haven't handled my friend's yet (we haven't been able to get to a range), but I just love the look of it. That, and I love being able to say it can fire shotgun shells (albeit small ones).

I wanted it based off the old P-40 Warhawks that used the sharks teeth look. That proved to be popular that other units and nations started the same thing on their aircraft. There was even an Arvo Lancaster with all 4 Merlin engines sporting the sharks face. Aircraft of all types sported the look, from lowly observation planes to transport aircraft. Though fighters were the most common to wear the paint.
