I wonder; would a 3-Rail O-Scale version work?
Perhaps by using an old MTH or Lionel locomotive for the wheels?
And if you put a fan-driven "diesel-type", adjustable-output smoke unit in its' mouth, and turned the mouth into a switch (open mouth; smoke on, closed mouth; smoke off) you could easily make the model "breathe" smoke!
When the mouth is open and the output is set to High Smoke; you could almost imagine little tiny terrified villagers running from this horrifying, evil black Dragon---Maleficent!
