Excerpt from the journal of Dante Heartbane, a vampire, age 12:

"The rest of the guys in our bunk said we would never go to the old churchyard. They tried telling us that the place was haunted by priests and nuns and that the sight of the cross would smite us into true unlife. I knew that was crap, but Manny was scared to death. His dad went to a church in Mexico, once, before they moved to Black Oaks, and a priest came out yelling things in latin and tried to set him on fire by throwing water at him, or that's the story he told Manny.

Anyway, we went and we had Jabber take our picture, you know, as proof."
