"no formal training, experience or talent" Welp, i'm concidered to be one of best students (winning school fairs xd) in my class on my profile (Electronics), and literally everything i know about it, i learned myself. School did not gave me anything that was useful on that. So just because you're self taught, doesn't mean you're worse than ones who learned that in school
