Hoo, and that's mighty interesting... though I dunno. Knowing Celeste... she might be persuaded to use that special tint of blue for the paintjob, but I don't know if she would transform such a priceless, valuable classic like a 1962 MB 190SL into a smoothened street rod. She'd most likely be much more inclined to restore it back to original state. Well, with a few tweaks perhaps for a more economical run and so such... this is the 21st century, after all =~.^=

Ah, and no no... not out of character at all! Sure, I love the American classics, because there's just so many of them! But I looove the European classics too! Mercedes, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Fiat, some Ferraris and Maseratis, Renault, Peugeot, Citroën (the DS! Drool drool!), and of course, not to forget, our own little Daf! And I know for a fact even Daf had a few dealerships in America in the 1960's! =~.^=

Oh, oeps... en dat bedankje had aan mijn respons for Marmel gemoeten... ik heb de dingen een beetje door mekaar gegooid, hihi! Ah, nou ja, in ieder geval nou bedankt voor de fave, dan! =~.^=

Oh, ik weet precies wat je bedoelt! De eerste auto die ik me kan herinneren van mijn vader was een '79-of-zo Toyota Starletje, daarna hadden we een '80 Fiat Ritmo 60L (één van de laatste met de ronde Fiat-badge op de neus), die beschadigd raakte in één van de januari-stormen die we hadden een aantal jaar geleden (en de bodem lag er zowat uit op 't end), maar gelukkig was-ie toen al ingeruild op een Lada Samara (dat was een tank van een auto!). De Lada ging vervolgens weg voor een Renault 21, die weer werd ingeruild of een Renault 19, dewelke we tenslotte hebben verkocht toen mijn vader een auto van de zaak kreeg; de Peugeot Partner (personen-versie) die we nu nog steeds hebben (mijn vader nam hem over toen het lease-contract afliep). Het eerste autootje van mijn zus was een 3-deurs Mazda 323-tje, wat ik een veel leuker autootje vond dan de Renault Twingo die ze daarna kocht.

Mijn eerste was een totaal verrotte Saab 99, en daarna ben ik nog door een Peugeot 504 stationcar, een VW Polo fastback en een Volvo 245 stationcar gegaan (die laatste moest ik verkopen toen ik m'n eerste baan kwijtraakte; baal ik nog steeds van! Dat was de beste auto die ik heb gehad!).

Als ik me weer eens een auto kan veroorloven, dan zal het weer een ouwe stationcar zijn; ik heb de extra laadruimte nodig. Of misschien een VW Busje uit de jaren '80, ik ben maf van die dingen, en ze zijn niet stuk te krijgen! Haha, maar ik weet hoe je je voelt; ik heb een paar keer gereden in de Mercedes Vito van het dierenpension waar ik als vrijwilliger werkte, maar ik vond het veel leuker om te rijden in de nogal aftandse Mitsubishi L300 van een kennis =~.^= Zo'n beetje een zelfde dieselhart als wat in een VW Caddy zit; dat ouderwetse turbo-loze genagel heb gewoon wat! =~.^=

;D Say, did I ever mention my late father's Opels? He had a Kadett wagon and a Rallye in metallic green... :D

Ohhh... no, you hadn't mentioned those before yet... ooo, a Karavan, and a Ralley? Series B, I suppose?

Yep. Learned how to shift a stick on the Karavan (at age 10; I'd sit in the passenger seat and change gears for Dad. We called it "Mitch shifting").

Awww, that's cute! When I was around that age, my dad would let me steer his 1979 Toyota Starlet the last way of the street to our house, siting in his lap. And when I was 12, he let me drive our 1980 Fiat Ritmo for the first time.

I have to say... of all the cars I owned, or driven in otherwise, there's only one that had an automatic shift... and I hated it. Gimme a stickshifter any time! =~.^=

Same here. Alas, my bottomfeeding car habits sort of dictate I take what comes along, which means slushboxes mostly...

Heh, I sooo know what you mean. Luckily here in Europe, or at least in the Netherlands, an automatic transmission is usually an extra option on any car, and the regular base models, save for a couple, have sticks only, so when I grab what I can get, a hundred to one it's a manual tranny =~.^=

And to think I drive a convertible...

Ah, not just vixens don't do that, most any lady from any species won't do that... but I do remember, if my old memory is not failing me, a conversation from last year when I had just joined the Thursday Prompts, in which is came forward that you are indeed somewhat older than this kitty is... though not that much older to be my mother, as I'm pretty darn old myself already too =~.^=

Hihi, klinkt leuk, die Civic =~.^= Zonde dat-ie gejat werd. Nissan Primera is ook goed! Ik heb gelest in een Sunny 2-liter injectie-diesel; fijne kar! Maar als ik een Nissan zou kopen, dan zou het waarschijnlijk toch wel een 1991 200SX zijn (je weet wel, dat is dezelfde kar als the 240SX in Need for Speed Underground 2 =~.^= In Europa is het de 200SX, en d'r zijn er een paar van in Nederland =~.^=)

Helaas kan ik me voorlopig geen auto meer veroorloven voor een behoorlijke tijd... nou ja, maar ik kan altijd met m'n vader meerijden in z'n Partner; da's ook een hele fijne wagen! (voor een diesel trekt-ie als een speer; leuk bij het stoplicht! =~.^=)

Maar inderdaad, de verschillende brandstoffen, dat is af en toe wennen... die Sunny waar ik in gelest heb had een waarschuwingslichie voor als je per ongeluk gewone benzine had getankt, maar zo'n functie heb ik toch niet vaak ik autos gezien. Gelukkig zit er ook een waarschuwing bij de tankdop =~.^=

Ja, de vierde en vijfde generatie VW Transporter is niet geweldig, ben ik met je eens. Natuurlijk moeten ze met hun tijd meegaan, maar... geef mij die blokkendoosjes uit de jaren 80 maar! Met die smalle spillebandjes en die kleine ronde koplampjes en die grote rechthoekige achterlichten... mmm, en misschien met een common-rail injectie-diesel met turbo en de vijfbak van een laatste-generatie Transporter erin, miauw! =~.^=
