Was never a fan of tentacle mouths. They always looked silly to me so I figured I'd try something else.

From the first time I read a Monster Manual (which would be 3.0 incidentally) and learned they have a long-lasting at-will stun attack AND an insta-kill, they were "top priority kill on sight."

Then many years later I read Lords of Madness and they were upgraded to "genocide the species, no survivors, no hesitation, no matter what."

So adding variants of them, meaning there's even more to them than before and we don't even necessarily know what ELSE they can do, would indeed make them more threatening. You did good ^_^

This pick brings back memories of a recent Pathfinder encounter, one where my inquisitor nat 1'd a reflex for half damage, at half health against the psychic backlash of an Elder Brain dying. Good times...
