(B for Bergan)
Samantha took a nervous breath as she opened the doorway. She adjusted her business dress and held her folders to her chest as she strode forward. She found herself on a bridge that connected to a massive mahogany desk.
Samantha had never been in an office this fancy. She’d spent so much of her time working on the ground floors of these buildings, struggling to make her presence known in this world. But when the being seated at the desk turned an eye toward her, Samantha suddenly wished she was invisible. The little human woman took a nervous breath as the dragon turned away from his computer screen to appraise her.
“Are you Samantha Williams, here for the 3pm interview?” The dragon’s voice asked.
“Uh… Yes, Sir.” Samantha nodded.
“No need to call me Sir just yet, Ms. Williams.” He clasped his talons together. “For now, take a breath and just call me Bergan.”
Some time ago, Samantha had been working as a secretary for a mid-level manager in a company that rivaled Bergan’s. But after that company was forced into bankruptcy, Samantha was worried about what would happen to her. Then came the online postings about career opportunities in Bergan’s company… with one position being to be a Personal Assistant for the big man himself. Did she really have what it took to get a position working for the CEO of one of the biggest companies in Ultimus Tower? Well… it was a gamble, but here she was, walking along the desk of Bergan Rhapsodos the Third.
The interview was scheduled to take place in the Central Stalk: a massive building that acted as the primary support beam of the whole of Ultimus Tower. It also doubled as an elevator for countless citizens. It wasn’t a hard place to find, that was for sure. She’d arrived fifteen minutes early, and waited anxiously until Bergan called her in.
Samantha had heard a lot about this dragon. Unlike many dragons in Ultimus Tower, Bergan traveled to earth when he was but a little hatchling. Many rumors said that he came from a wealthy family on another dragon-inhabited planet. He supposedly inherited a lot of money, but worked to build his own company here on earth. And now, as the human woman approached the purple dragon, she couldn’t help but be intimidated by his giant form.
Bergan had a golden mane that fell down neatly along his back. A matching beard clung to his face and had a little bead on the end (how dragons grew beards, Samantha couldn’t guess). Two ram-like horns grew on either side of his head, giving the dragon the appearance of a noble goat (though Samantha didn’t dare comment on this out loud). He sat confidently in a white business suit, and his red eyes followed Samantha’s every step forward.
There was a little chair for humans to sit in at the center of the desk. Samantha carefully sat down and put her folder in her lap as Bergan leaned back in his chair.
“I took the liberty of looking at the advance copy of the resume you sent me, Ms. Williams.” Bergan began. “And I must say, you have quite an impressive history. Quite the incredible work ethic, too.”
“Thank you, Mr. Bergan.” Samantha nodded her head.
“Yes, quite impressive indeed…” Bergan nodded his head. “Plus, you were the only human to apply for this position. I suppose that many are a bit frightened of me.”
“Right…” Samantha sat up straight and tried to look as confident as possible.
“Now, let’s get started…” Bergan neatly arranged his papers and cleared his throat. “First question: How much do you expect to be paid each year?”
“I… I won’t settle for less than 20 credits per hour.” Samantha declared.
“Ah…” Bergan grinned. “I like an employee who knows exactly what they want. Next question...”
The interview went on for about another five minutes. Most of the questions were things that Samantha came to expect from past interviews. She was almost on auto-pilot as she answered the dragon. This gave Samantha’s subconscious the time to take certain… features into account.
Even sitting down, Bergan was clearly taller than the average dragon. His wingspan was wide, and his tail was thick; it even ended with a golden tailblade. His talons were sharp as swords, and his fangs doubly so. And that well-toned physique hidden beneath that suit… any woman, regardless of species, would faint at the sight of it. Truly this dragon was a force to be reckoned with… and at any moment, he could easily strip Samantha down and do with her as he pleased. She could see it in his eyes… it was something he wanted… something he expected.
And before long, there were no more questions to distract the dragon from his desires.
“Well, Ms. Williams, I’d say that everything is in order.” Bergan scratched his chin. “I suppose it’s time to move on to the final part of this interview… a test run.”
