Collines Verdes Pokédex #07: Castanight.
In the rivers, lakes and along the shorelines across Collines Verdes, there are many wonderfully interesting Pokémon to see and learn about. Castanight, however, isn't exactly interested in being studied. Surly Water/Dark-types, Castanights are a kind of shellfish that gather together in small beds throughout the country, normally numbering less than a dozen. Their shiny, semi-metallic shells readily draw the eye, but their surly temper is more than enough to repel unwanted attention.
They're quick to spray highly pressurized water at intruders, but when that fails their serrated shells can offer a nasty nip, and they can also produce dark energy-imbued "pearls" that explode on contact with whatever they propel them toward. On top of that, they've been known to launch themselves fully out of the water when angered, though this does disrupt their resting place. The easiest way to identify that you're nearing a bed of the grumpy little creatures is a low, repeated clattering sound made by their rapidly clicking shells.
They're normally found, and captured, in groups due to an interwoven system of root-like appendages that grow from the hinge of their shells, uniting the individual Pokémon into a single conjoined, group-reliant entity. That means that, much like an Exeggcute, you always catch a number of the Pokémon rather than an individual.
Though they have a nasty temper and prefer to be left in peace, once a Castanight group is captured they're not terribly hard to train into loyal and sturdy companions. One of their primary benefits is their regular generation of a renewable resource in the form of their Shadow Pearls. These pearls are used as a component in certain rare, custom Poké Balls, medicinal mixtures and even in Collines Verdes cuisine in some cases.
