Collines Verdes Pokédex #40: Melupine.
Thought of as little more than a legend in the colder northern reaches of Collines Verdes, the Melupine is sometimes referred to as “The Lady of the Fog”. Said to live and move freely along the rivers of northeastern Collines Verdes, Melupine is usually heralded by the coming of dense, cold fog that freezes the surface of any body of water it touches. Seen almost exclusively at night, the Pokemon appears to be a large, Fox-like creature with Dragon-like traits. A long, sinewy tail ending in a luxuriously thick tuft of blue-white fur seems more draconic, as do the gem-like glacial scales running along the Pokemon’s underside. The soft coat of snowy white fur with a blue undercoat, pointed ears with soft tufts, vulpine snout and dainty paws all readily bring to mind a fox, though larger than a Tauros in size. The Pokemon moves soundlessly, walking on top of grass, snow and ice without leaving prints and trailing a frozen after image of itself in the fog it generates.
It’s rumored that in daylight hours the Pokemon takes on a more anthropoid form, shy and somewhat small, shorter than a normal human adult and covered in dense, soft fur save for the scaled belly, throat and chest. Some Trainers who have seen the mysterious Pokemon in this daytime state have said that despite it lacking outwardly female traits, it has the gentleness and curves of a feminine creature. It still bears the long, draconic tail, though, usually draping it around its shoulders like a shawl or boa.
When threatened, Melupine has been known to create driving, frozen rains to repel attackers, and isn’t above using its sharp teeth to lay into an enemy Pokemon. Any previous attempts to capture the Pokemon have failed, with some Trainers saying it vanishes into thin air as soon as it gets the chance, leaving behind a frozen shade of itself that disintegrates within seconds. Trainers looking to see, let alone attempt to catch, the legendary Pokemon are advised to prepare to deal with both Dragon and Ice-type attacks, including Anti-Freeze spray, and to tread carefully; Melupine has been known to misdirect enemies into walking onto the thin sheets of ice it forms over rivers and ponds, losing them in the fog until they plunge into the icy water and have to retreat or freeze.
Melupine, the Mist-Shrouded Myth Pokemon, No. 040 in the Collines Verdes Regional Pokédex.
No. 07 in the Ōshū Legendarium.
Form 1 of 2: Moonshadow Form.
