A thousand apologies for the late reply, but forgetting a password was quite a bother.
The story, though fictional, takes place in an alternate future of the modern human world you know of now. It takes place in the late 2050 AD era and advances in robotics and energy research has greatly advanced since the release of the humanoid robot ASIMO and after a major conflict over dwindling oil supplies.
Techanoids, short for Technological Animal-like Humanoids, are as commonplace in this era as Ipods and laptops were in the 2010 era. More advanced than the human-like Technoid ver. 1 and ver 2. which created lots of controversy over any human owning a human-looking creation, animal types are more widely accepted and heavily customizable, and became quite popular after several Disney inspired designs. It's common for someone to own at least one, though some countries do try to put out cheaper and inferior mass produced models. There are civilian P.E.T. (Personal Entertainment Techanoid) types which are unarmed save for a few customized security types, to specific police and military type B.E.A.S.T. (Biosynthetic Enhanced Advanced Specalized Techanoid) which are armed and are quite expensive. They are powered by small HySol (Hydrogen/Solar) reactors which can be refueled simply with water or sunlight, but also need to rely on large rechargeable batteries for extended tasks.
In this time, there are several companies and corporations which deal with Tech and HySol products though there are two major companies which need to be noted. The first is Artemis systems, the first to utilize Techa products in the early 2020 years and has become one of the largest producers in the field. The other is Longinus which focuses on cybernetic enhancements of humans, primarily dealing with prosthetic limbs but later going into full body cybernization after ownership was transferred. Now they are similar to a private military company dealing with 'Dark Age' themed armor units such as Lancers, Knights, and Valkyries, basing their designs on old medieval armors. They also follow a strong religious belief that Techanoids are abominations and evil imitations of life and that only mankind should be enhanced to be closer to 'God'.
At this time, I'm trying to escape from both of them, for reasons that even I cannot understand.

My apologies for taking so long to reply to this, I had to try and remember what my password was. ^_^;
Yes, there will be a special custom unit designated as a Xizana type which bears a resemblance to lion and rabbit frames. The custom unit's owner has yet to be identified as of yet but should be worked on sooner or later. ^_^

Sorry for the delay in replying.
Generally all P.E.T. models are 'bare bones' or 'naked' from the package or store they're ordered from, save for special editions with uniforms, outfits, or via request by their new owners.
Household variants are customizable to the owners desires, or to the P.E.T. themselves if their owner gives them that liberty. Specific use pets like Hospital and Police unit types are pretty much copies in external appearance save for maybe one different aspect like eye color or hair style.
Pretty much any and every P.E.T. frame is able to be customized so that there will be very rare chances for any to look alike. Unless someone has a thing for twins

A thousand apologies for the long delay in replying. My creator has been busy.
Standard PET models range to just under 5.6 feet tall, not including ears and hair assembly. Expansion wise...well, I've yet to see any 'fat' Techs but I'm sure there are custom models. And household models have energy reserves to allow them to lift a fully loaded truck if need be in order to save their owners for such situations, but they will suffer extensive damage doing so. But they are no match for the combat strength of a BEAST type, which were created for such rugged use.
In the American, Asian(Japan) and European markets most household models are kept 'small' but not too tiny. Though there are rumors of companies making 'children-sized' variant 'lap-top' models for those that don't want a large Techanoid in their home. Luckily, those are not compatible with X modules.
The knock off Chinese and Korean models however, I'm not too sure about. Those weren't built up to reliability.

Hmmm. I suppose I'll have to end up digging up a few lightweight surplus BEAST components, then, if just to deal with the spiralling weight issue... Longer limbs means more leverage along their length, so they need to be stiffer, and that means more weight, which means bigger servos to move them, which are bigger themselves... And that means higher energy consumption, so more weight needs to be devoted to batteries and/or generators...
Ahh, well. It's all for the art, after all.
