Krista sighed as she set down the latest box. The last couple of years had brought so many changes. Graduation, marriage, a new baby, and now a new home, currently filled with stacks of boxes interspersed with random pieces of furniture - the ephemera typical of two lives starting out together.
...Make that three.
Alex walked in the door behind her; she set her own box down near Krista's and stepped over to the pensive beagle, touching a hand to her shoulder. "Nickel for your thoughts?"
"Oh, just pondering the mysteries of the universe. You know me," she chuckled half-heartedly.
Alex took Krista's hands in hers, giving them a squeeze. "She'll come around. Let her get used to the idea."
"I hope so. It went better than I thought it would, at least."
"Something to build on."
"I'm amazed your parents took it so well."
"You and me both," Alex agreed. "Guess you never know."
"True enough." Krista looked around, a smile growing. "So, the castle's ours."
"Bedroom's a little smaller than I remember. Will probably have to put a new bed on hold till we get somewhere bigger. We'll just have to snuggle close for a while."
"Can do!" Dan interjected, wrapping his arms around the pair.
"Where'd you come from?" Krista laughed. "And where's Vicky?"
"Right here," Jenna called from the doorway, carrier holding her infant niece in hand.
"Bring her over!"
"Not yet, not yet. Photo first!" Krista's sister held up her phone. "Smile and say snuggles!"
