Okay so the Vulcan Automata isn't pool toys, they are full body cyborgs. The bodies are typically solid, there are a few styles of frames that are hallow/inflated so the bodies can be stored with greater ease while not in use. They do use a large variety materials for the bodies, metal is the minority of parts within the body and instead uses plastic composites and synthetic muscles made from that.
I have spent too much time on the world building for what the Vulcan Automata typically does for their operations. A consider administration for the VA to be in the weirdly alien but very deliberately TRYING to be ethical and considerate because they want to build a long lasting intergalactic market.
