"mad world" is one of the saddest songs ever. this is probably mid-90s for now, so she's probably listening to the tears for fears version, but i was listening to the adam lambert version. :D

say what you will, his version is freaking gorgeous. i'm not ashamed to say i'm impressed.

anyway, just wanted to do a needlessly emo picture of naoki back in high school. why is she sad? well, at this time, she's probably having to watch her best friend (frenor) fuck a bunch of random people she doesn't consider worthy while she's still got a big ol "virgin!!" stamped to her forehead, and her family has become very distant from her due to her sudden transformation from human to weird, unnatural fox-human hybrid. in their world, hybrids exist, but they're born that way, so nao's kind of a freak. normally she handles it all with great stride, but i think she has the occasional moment where she breaks down and goes catatonic. nao deals with things alone. in her weird-ass gym clothes. spanky pants over biker shorts? so glad that phase is over.

(smoking is a terrible habit! don't do it. these are magic cigarettes. they smell pleasant and don't kill you. :P i just wanted to give the picture some sense of singular focus along with an excuse to have her feet propped up on a glass wall and some dynamic lighting. don't make a big deal out of it.)

was inspired a little by jo chen and the other art in the buffy season 8 comics. :D pouty lips are hard but rewarding to draw.
