Naphtha and "wyldfire oil?"

I'm afraid to ask but, what's Naphta and Wyldfire oil?

Well, I do know what petrol is, even if I ain't from one of the British commonwealth countries. LOL. I just didn't know that's what Naphta and Wyldfire oil was.

Naptha, or Greek Fire as the Byzantines called it, is similar to modern napalm in that it is a petroleum-based substance that is easy to ignite but very hard to put out. It is also thin enough to be able to be sprayed from a simple pump, and can easily ignite a either a ship or a soldier with equal ease. Very nasty stuff; I'm imagining that Wyldfire Oil is something similar in that it is also a pyrotechnic substance. Maybe it's in the form of a grenade or similar thin clay pot that can shatter on impact.


They want to catch a rabbit, but like the FBI they sound like they need to burn down the forest to catch one! Giving those two a blank check to raid the armory is going to be a bad idea. A very bad idea.

Wyldfire Oil is, I believe, a mixture of pitch and a mineral oil that made it less viscous while retaining its flammability and ability to burn for a very long time, while giving it the additional property of spattering blobs of flaming liquid everywhere the whole time it burned, kind of like setting a plastic bag on fire.

Wyldfire oil - sounds like mix of wildfire oil (don't ask!) and an oil compan6 name.

Naphta - old name of crude oil, but today it encompasses various hydrocarbon mixtures, including tar.

Ah, thanks. As well read as I am, I hadn't heard of Naphta until this arc.

I knew what naptha was, however, I always thought of it as paint thinner.

I believe I'd heard the name but I never realized it was something flammable.

In that case that's same as "white spirit". A really thin, rectified kerosene.

You mean "refined", rectified is something you do with AC to DC circuits.

Naptha is an old name for Zippo cigarette lighter fuel. Possibly camp stove fuel.

Either that was rectified kerosene or coal tar. Both produce a colorless, somewhat pungent-smelling, easy to boil liquid with high ability to stick to surfaces.
