The next one will deal with coloring. A few notes on this one:
1) This is digital drawing/inking, but I use a similar technique for traditional. For that, I use non-photo blue pencil, then mechanical pencil, then I ink or pencil the final onto bristol using my small, cheap light box. There are a lot of good tutorials out there for isolating scanned lineart onto its own layer in photoshop for coloring; I use the channels method.
2) I draw/sketch primarily in painter 9. I'm using the cover pencil mostly, that's one of my favorite tools in that program. I also sometimes draw/ink in photoshop, but I get better line weights in painter. I've heard opencanvas is good for this, or shipainter, but I don't have either, so I can't attest to their relative goodness.
3) If anyone has any other questions, I'll try to answer them in comments.
Thanks! :3

Everything is digital. I only mentioned "digital" inking because I am total ass at inking traditionally; so while drawing on the comp and drawing on paper are pretty even for me, it's inking on the computer that saves me time after time.
Sorry for any confusion, I am trying to type through the sick, and failing.

Im kinda new with photoshop and painter. I need some suggestions on how to get any of the pen tools to draw my lines more smoothly. I play with the pressure setting and that helps when I do the pencil for my work. Bit it would TOTALLY help if you did just a tutorial on how you do your inking.
Here we go. This guy does a really good job showing/talking about a lot of the things to keep in mind if you're inking in painter. Obviously my stuff isn't usually this detailed, but this is more or less the method I use (except that he scans his sketches and I draw them on the comp). The turning the canvas thing is pretty invaluable if you need to do long, curved lines, which I always had hard time with before I figured that out (and before I got this new tablet).

each time I have a pretty hard time inking in photoshop. I really should give Painter a try. The tutorial is really cool. that trick with the canva rotating should really help, because each time i have to draw long, long lines it's a real pain, my line just go all messy, like when i try to ink a thigh
on another hand, the res you are working with seems to be really really bigger than what i use to do. It looks like PS is bloated when I work on pics bigger than 5000x5000, on my new Macbook. How come you have no problem on your 1Ghz ? Is Painter faster ?
Anyway thanks for the headup.
I am really fond of your art.

It could be a lot of issues. Painter is not noticeably faster than photoshop for me, maybe a little, but nothing staggering. To do a letter size image at the resolution I am working in, the canvas only needs to be like 2,500 by 3,000 pixels, so you should never have to make your canvas that big (over 5000) unless you're doing poster size, in which case yeah, my computer would be chugging too.
