ours fell over night, so gritting was an epic fail as it came down so much it froze /over/ the grit .-. since the grit here is the stuff that barely works

OHhhh.. *THAT* aint black ice.. Black ice is scary shit.. it's when you drive on asphalt roads.. and what *LOOKED* like asphalt turns out to have zero friction.. you only find out it's really ice when your tires break loose. That there is just good old fashioned , crappy to drive on , snow and ice. :>

Well now that is a good point. All time rear wheel drive with wide tires and high torque does make snow rather problematic, particularly if driving an automatic(shame on you if you are. X3 ).

I've always thought of it this way. The difference between a manual transmission and a slushbox is like the difference between porn and sex. Sure the porn gets the job done and came amusing from time to time, but when you get down to it sex (the manual) is always so much funner and more satisfying. :)

it's always funny to me how different places react to some weathers differently. I once lived in a place where 3-6 feet of snow was common. the same place where it sometimes got below -40 (F and C). it's at that temperature spit goes clink instead of splat. I remember boiling a pot of water, taking it outside and throwing the water into the air... the water didn't come down. it was awesome.

but anyway, keep warm and don't drive!

Not as bad as it looks here, but if you're not used to that sort of thing (like over here lol) it can be a shock. I kind of like despite public transport is failing me every day...

my road is still white >..< all the snows compacted into a ice rink, and then there the sharp hill which lead sdown behind our house, only have to brake gently and you keep going >..<

well last winter/spring i only had a motor for a transport and had to travel in the icey condictions to work but in my adreline junky mind i took the rat run ( a short cross across a country lane.....now that was stupid.

Went up the hill fine....went down the hill and hit light ice...okay take it slow no prob....but then i hit the 90 degree bends and black ice ; geeze my back wheel kept sliding out from under me at 5mph >..<

Made it to work no problem but had a massive stupid grin on my face......i love the rush.....i cant help it

Looks like what we gots here in arkansas. That and they don't seem to like to salt/sand/plow it at all.
