Well then. Here we are. This is Ryve. This is the first fursuit head I’ve ever made from start to finish.
This is work done for Vaz0r on DA after they had such a horrendous time with other makers. They went through two makers for their character’s head before our paths crossed on Discord and we worked out an arrangement. You can read about some of their experiences (I helped with a review on a previous head from one of the makers that fell though - I was supposed to refirb it but just ended up re-making..) on their page - also their art is super cute, dragons to die for.
Before I continue I don’t normally make full fursuit heads and I don’t think I will be taking custom orders for these in the future, continuing to focus on my pattern development, personal items, and work on my (much shorter now) queue.
This is their lovely character reference: https://www.deviantart.com/vaz0r/ar.....-ref-792546279
This is a proof of concept that my pattern base can be modified into a somewhat different shape for a head. I modified this pattern somewhat to make this beaky, toony, dragon child. https://www.etsy.com/listing/673485.....t-head-pattern
This head features:
* A custom balaclava, seen here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/32369117/
* Sculpted, sanded and painted 3D eye blanks (the irises were salvaged from the previous head, the only thing I could actually use) built from PVC pipe, a plastic bowl, apoxie sculpt, filler primer and spray paint. Seen here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/32368349/
Removable quill-like feathers with rare earth magnets in triangular plugs
My modified Angel Dragon base made in mostly 1/2 inch foam
A fan installation - battery compartment is hidden in the snoot
Pickable nostrils with sport mesh deep inside for fresh airflow feeding the fan.
A zipper in the back that may or may not be required, I don’t need it to get it on my head but the client’s head is slightly larger than mine.
I learned a lot and I had so much respect for people who make these full time.
I could not have made this half as well without the help and support from the Fursuit Maker Discord I’m in. Getting help from peers regarding techniques and proportions is so useful when doing work like this!
Thank you for reading!
