Slippers for wearing around the house.
I suppose they could be dino slippers. Hmm.
It's been a darn chilly winter, so I decided to make myself a new pair (after a few failed attempts at making a prototype for Dinosaucer slippers for a certain prototype customer).
These differ from costume feet in several ways:
(1) they're not designed to wear around cons or outside.
(2) they're designed to be very warm, comfortable, and cozy
(3) they have nothing but stuffing inside. No inner lining, no inner shoe or slipper, no inner sandal, no nothin'. Just a hole.
The soles are the same fur as the skin, though I may add 'pads' once the wear patterns demonstrate themselves. The wearer's foot is swallowed up by pure Morning Glory Fiberfill. I usually wear socks when wearing such things (I've created at least half a dozen slippers of this ilk), but socks are not necessary. The socks do seem to translate sensation better, such that it's less clumsy-feeling moving around the house in these suckers. Socks also keep foot oils out of the fiberfill - even my most seasoned slippers don't seem to have much of an issue with it.
The design is extremely simple, and I'm pretty amazed at how well it came out. Previous slippers had about 6-8 pieces per foot, not counting the claws. These have 3 pieces -- top left, top right, and sole. Without any sort of cuts or swaths or .. uh .. whatever the sewing terms are for those pieces that have curved stitches.
The talons are crooked, but I can fix that pretty easily. The talons are "open" at the toe, meaning that they are not sewn shut where the talon meets the toe. This results in 'firmer' talons that don't wiggle around goofily with every little tremor.
SIZE: they are about 12" wide at the widest (the 3 toes), and about 18" long not counting the talons (from the back toe, which is a few inches beyond the heel, to the front toe). They're about 6" high at the highest (nearest the leg, not counting the cuff)
