This doesn't look like a very big difference, but it is!
I'm happy to say that each new fursuit head I've made has been more comfortable and easier to wear than the last... but that means my very first is a lot harder to tolerate these days. When I built Henbane's head in 2015 I had never tried on a suit before. I had no frame of reference for how well I should be able to see. The eye mesh I used for him at the time was black aida (cross-stitching) fabric, which as it turns out... is really kind of terrible for seeing anything in less than blinding daylight conditions. His eyeholes were really small, too, and ended up being kind of far away from my own eyes.
BUT I still missed suiting as him, so last night when I got home from IBFC I performed my very first fursuit surgery. I pried off the old eyes, replaced the aida with a much better vinyl mesh, swapped out the eyelids for fleece ones, painted extra details everywhere, cut away some fur and foam to widen the eyeholes, lined the sockets with fleece (no more fur creeping in on the interior!), installed the new eyes INTO the head instead of just gluing them on top... then I replaced his teeth just for kicks.
And then I took him out for the first time in a long time today!
...He's still more strenous to wear than my other heads, but the difference in vision is enormous. Someday I'd like to completely remake him as a full suit with everything I've learned since 2015. For now though, I can get at least a little more life out of my first fursuit, and I want to thank everyone who complimented him or took his picture at the con!

It was actually cloth aida, 14ct if I remember correctly, I chose it because it came in black and I didn't want to have to paint anything. I think vinyl might be better because the holes won't fray or warp, but ymmv. The mesh I'm using now is a woven vinyl placemat from the dollar store of all things!
