I have a thought in mind on how this story can actually develop, but I don't want to discuss it here out of worry that I might spoil something you are planning for.
Seriously, if there was one thing - just ONE - that you succeeded in doing, it must be character development. It's so natural, your audience can relate to most of them and you already have a backstory planned for those we might have hated at one point (Aqua's father specifically.)
Although dark, the story so far is really captivating. Very well done.
