About two nights ago I had this super cute dream in which I owned the three viruses as pets. It basically felt like having three affectionate dogs.

So after that, I thought about how cute it'd be if people in the Mushroom Kingdom were able to own tame versions of these viruses as pets. The tame viruses are unable to contaminate or infect anything they come into contact with, which is why they're not considered that much of a threat. And that's how I came up with my koopsona's pet virus named Gumball. Gumball is quite mischievous and can be a bit of a troublemaker at times, but even then he's a lovable sweetheart that loves getting attention : )
