Richard here is the father of Caleb (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/23643183/), Jessie (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27349136/), Brandi (Ref coming soon), and Scott (Ref coming soon), in addition to being the leader and founder of the Guild his kids live and are a part of. A very powerful Suicune, Richard is also incredibly serious about protecting the guild and his family. While his wife was pregnant with Caleb the guild, still growing at the time, was attacked by a Raider guild in the middle of the night. Eventually the leader was defeated but at the cost of dozens and dozens of guild members and civilians in the village alike, including Rose's (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/27817697/) father. Wrife with the guilt that he couldn't protect his guild and the villagers, Richard became much more hardened and less talkative, only to strategize. He never smiles anymore and any attempt to make him smile will just be met with a very intimidating scowl.

The gem on his necklace is a very special one - it contains a third of a soul of a Ho-Oh that turned evil while he was serving under him. The Ho-Oh turned on Richard after it was found out he had chosen a Ninetales as a mate, because he hated pokemon he considered "Not worthy" (aka non-legendaries), and this sent him into a rage that ended with the deaths of swaths of regular non legendary pokemon. Ricahrd, along with two friends (A Female Raikou and a Male Entei) put an end to the bird's terror and using Richard's wife's use of black magic divided the soul in three and embedded them into crystals. Each of the pokemon posses one of the crystals each to keep the Ho-oh from ever terrorizing the planet again.
