In fairness to Deva, she didn't "master" her space pouch so much as had one installed by someone who was already supposed to have been in a master in the field.
Though in equal fairness to the space/time master, s/he likely only ever intended Deva to use it for work-related purposes, much less accounted for the possibility of Deva trying on a whim to claim a giant Artrovonian dragon as a pouch pet.
