History speaks of mythical races whose potential outcomes spark debates the world over. Superman v Flash ring a bell to anyone? My next commission reflects Chapter 14 of the “New Dawn” story where another one of these awe inspiring, speed limit breaking, online riot starting races to the finish is held. I don’t do spoilers people, so if you want to know how this one goes down, you are going to have to read! Something you learned in school is finally going to pay off! Yay! On to this specific image. I can’t speak enough about the importance of pose work. The stances these two characters are in, and the weight being shifted across their bodies really lends an air of believability to the image. It is further enhanced by the differing starting styles presented by the racers, which you would certainly expect when one participant is bipedal and the other is a quadruped. Sonic pushes his arm forward, to force all his kinetic energy into his legs. Dash does not split her force into separate directions, instead she has her entire body in a launch position so she can blast off like the little rocket she is.
I used a few tricks I have picked up over the years to build up the BG. The forest is a nice venue for this image and I played around with the concept to develop a “natural” starting line where the dirt fades to grass. It also let me add a few little touches here and there like a little ladybug that is certainly enjoying the best seats in the theoretical house.
Overall a fun image that let me work with what are actually quite odd poses. This leads us to the question of the day however: Hedgehog Power against Horse Power… Who u got?
