Whee, okay, I finally finished the proper full pic of the new girl. Meet Foosie! She's very happy to see you. So it took me about, like, 6 days to draw this? Technically 5 since I started after midnight had already passed on the first day, but you get what I mean. So before starting this, I was really struggling to think of what pose to use. I mean, I wanted to be sure to do a nice drawing of Foosie while she was still fresh in my mind, but I didn't have a single, solid idea. So I drew up some poses and asked around, mostly on Discord. One of those should look very familiar. So yeah, the winner was of course... pose 3! Pose 1 was a close second. However, I just wasn't feeling 3. A couple of people commented that it felt a little bland, which I agreed with. Also, 6 was a close third, but I felt the level of "cuteness" was a bit excessive, so I went with 1. And, uh, yeah. Wow. Like I said before, MEGA cutie. I feel like I've taken a step forward here with shading; I used the same gritty brush that I used with Big Wing Goth GF (link) - but this time I used it as the main shader. It's an excellent diffuser; I've often struggled with getting my shading smooth, but the diffuser brush (as I guess I'll call it) spreads out the tones and gives a little variation and texture to boot. I also referenced some work by one of my favourite furry artists, Fivel (who is not on DeviantArt as far as I know.) I've noticed her (and some others) doing rimlighting by actually painting over the lines in white/a light colour to help sell the effect. So I did that, along with some stronger backlighting than usual, then added some ambient light, and WOW. Up until that point I had been getting frustrated with my lacklustre skills when it comes to digital painting - I really want to learn how to use brushes properly!!! - but I think the lighting really makes it, like the textures did with Big Wing Goth GF. I think I'm doing okay with what skills I have. And learning with every piece I do! Seriously, after 4 years of doing shaded digital drawings, I still haven't nailed down a consistent method, lol. I always feel like I'm winging it. Hopefully one day in the near future, that will change.
Oh, and here, have a bonus warmup sketch, freshly coloured for your viewing pleasure. (She big. 😍) (link)
