The Architecture of Scalton
EDIT: Why are you guys fave'ing this? Must be more building-kin out there than I thought. ;)
On the world of Embertrail, the city of Scalton sits nestled on the shores of a vast lake, deep in the isolated countryside of Attswerne. Though much of the region is troubled by frequent geological activity in the form of earthquakes, Scalton itself appears to be in the perfect position to avoid most of the damage. Therefore, its homes are comparatively elaborate when compared to its countryside counterparts. Foundations are often built from the reddish stone of the region, and structures' faces are decorated with plentiful trim and decorative lattices.
The Chelask are the most populous species in Scalton and neighboring Attswerne. Their poor visual sense of color causes their aesthetics to feature a high degree of contrast, to the point where an larger-than-average portion of Scalton's economy is founded on the production and maintenance of structural pigments.
Athaexi traditions are also honored here, despite the region's remoteness. Any home expecting to house an Athaexi overday will have openings to the sky on the roof. The nocturnal Athaexi believe that when they sleep, their spirits leave the home for one of the neighboring worlds seen in Embertrail's sky, and an open passage is required for this process to occur.
This submission is a part of one of my worldbuilding projects: The Last Dream of Embertrail. Embertrail is only tangentially related to Trinity Project.
Embertrail lies at a cosmic crossroads, where strange magical structures called Monoliths constantly bring new people, ideas, cultures, and conflicts from all across the cosmic waters. It's a wild and merciless place, where the primordial forces of the universe come to life, and powerful otherworldly beings roam unchecked. It's a place where you could forge a new life... or it could forge one for you.
