Makelina: There were a couple of months were I was alone on the island. Nana had just recently passed, which basically left me as the last member of my family.

It was super tough getting out of bed for a while. Having been almost 19, I had already been given access to the money granted to me after the accident that killed Dad and Kale. So I didn't have much of a reason to get a job. I was one of the more free of responsibilities people on the island. And honestly, it took a toll. I didn't eat the best, I didn't exercise much, and because of who I was, I was able to sneak into bars and clubs without getting carded.

One day I got up and I just felt... dead. Everything felt wrong. Almost as if I was being judged from above by everyone for letting them down, even though I felt I was living my best. It was that day where I decided to make some drastic changes. The biggest being moving off the island I'd called home my whole life. I didn't feel as if I was the type to live fat and happy. And staying in Hawai'i would have just led to the fat part for sure.

I wanted to live fully happy. It was the least I could do to honor Dad and Bro.
