Back at the tavern, the Raichu continued to watch as Guts ate his weight in cheese. Once he had his fill, the chubby Chespin just reclined back and rubbed his gut contently. “Mmm, I’ve never eaten my weight in cheese before, but I must say that was very gouda.”
“Well, there hasn’t been any physical change in him even after all this time and it has had done nothing to deter him from punning either,” commented one of the Raichu. “I guess this is just another failed batch.”
“Let’s just give the pheromone test one more try and then we can take him over to the facility with the rest of his team,” the other Raichu replied. “After that, I never wanna hear another pun ever again.”
While Guts continued to rest after his high in dairy meal, the Raichu sneakily unleashed their pheromones beneath his seat. Blissfully unaware of the danger wafting around his nose and infiltrating his sinuses, the chubby Chespin inhaled big as he worked to digest his meal.
“Oh, look, it didn’t work again,” the Raichu concluded almost immediately. “Let’s bag him quick and get him outta here.”
“You’ve got to at least give it a minute to ensure the pheromones are working,” the more patient Raichu told him.
“It’s not gonna work,” he complained. “It hasn’t worked yet and from what we’ve already seen this one won’t-”
“Chu!” squealed an extremely content-sounding Pokemon. From how it sounded, it was undoubtedly a Pikachu. With their hearts skipping a beat, they turned to where it came from and saw what they had expected. It was Guts. He wasn’t resting as he digested like they saw him doing a moment ago, but up and approaching them, with an all too happy look on his face. There were hearts in his eyes as he appeared like he had been inflicted with Attract.
“Did… Did it actually work?” wondered the Raichu in disbelief as they continued to observe Guts’s behavior. LIfting his nose up, he sniffed the trail of pheromones leading him to their tails, hugging one as he inhaled it more closely from the source. “He didn’t somehow find out about all this and is just playing us now, is he?”
“Chu!” Guts swooned again, pushing his head into the Raichu’s tail, practically begging to be sucked up into his tail pouch.
“This might actually be the real deal,” the other Raichu replied. “And that means that the special cheese formula actually works.”
“Well, kinda. He’s still not a Pikachu,” he pointed out. “Still, this is the best result we’ve ever gotten on a non pseudo-chu. I bet we’ll be greatly rewarded by Zaron for this one. Let’s get him to the factory asap.” Nodding, the Raichu sucked up Guts into his tailpouch and then the two hurried their way over, certain that Zaron would be elated that his ultimate goal seemed one step closer to its realization.
“Whoa!” cried Seer as she and Holmes were unleashed from the Raichu’s tailpouch and dropped into cages by Luna and the already-turned, pseudo-chu Pokemon. Lucky was soon to join them, placed inside by a rather relieved-looking Raichu. “Not so rough, you brutes! We’re not luggage for you to manhandle like that.”
“Unless you’re Pikachu, you’re not considered precious cargo,” he pointed out. “Now, you lot just sit here till Zaron decides when he’ll deal with you.” The Raichu soon took their leave, allowing the majority of Team Unown to regroup.
“I was hoping I’d get to see the rest of you soon,” commented Luna. “Just not like this.”
“There wasn’t much we could do,” sighed Holmes. “The entire city is under Zaron’s control. I know cases of Pokemon voring have been on the rise, but I never imagined an entire city would end up consumed by it. We are definitely in over our heads in this situation.”
“You might not even realize how bad it is,” explained Luna. “Zaron has been turning other Pokemon into Pikachu to fatten up and eat them. He’s already managed to do that to Pokemon similar to Pikachu, but his ultimate goal is to be able to do that to any Pokemon and devour them all.”
“That’s not right,” stated Luciky. “Pokemon are meant to be who they are. Nobody should be able to force a Pokemon to be any different.”
“Well, Zaron isn’t doing this out of some twisted ideology,” pointed out Holmes. “It’s purely out of insatiable hunger. If he isn’t stopped, he will attempt to devour every last Pokemon in the region. The scary part is he’s actually managed to create a following and come this far. Compared to all the other cases we’ve been involved in, this might not just be another incident, but a disaster in the making.”
“Is it really that bad?” asked Seer.
“If I’m remembering the first big incident with him correctly,” recalled Holmes. “He managed to devour a ton of Pikachu on his own in a single night and even more before he was finally found out and forced to flee. He should have been stopped back then, but he’s only gotten a lot more dangerous since. This is more than a Pokemon Team can handle.”
“Then we have to get out of here and call the National PokeGuard immediately,” said Luna. “Even if we have to go to the nearest town by foot. Seer, can you teleport us out of here?”
“I’ve been trying to do just that from the second we were captured,” she explained. “When we were trapped in that Raichu I couldn’t teleport out of him. It’s probably because he’s part Dark-type. But even now, I can’t use Teleport, possibly some lingering effects from being inside of him.”
“Then we’re all stuck in here,” groaned Luna. “I don’t wanna be eaten again, as myself or a Pikachu!”
”Well, I don’t think Guts has been captured yet,” pointed out Lucky. “He can still save us.”
“That’s true,” admitted Seer. “Guts has managed to help save us before when we were in dire straits. Where was he the last time you saw him?”
“We were in a tavern and he was helping himself to a lot of cheese,” he answered, his words filling the others with a ton of worry. “Oh, is that bad?”
“We’re doomed,” stated Luna slumping over.
“This is quite promising,” grinned Zaron as he observed Guts, still enthralled by his fellow Raichu’s pheromones. He then leaked out his own and watched the chubby, little Grass-Type turn and hug his tail. “Yes, there’s no doubt. It seems we’ve finally managed to get the formula right for our Pikachu transforming cheese recipe.
“But he hasn’t changed physically,” pointed out one of the other Raichu. “This is the best results we’ve gotten, but it still seems a ways off.
“It shouldn’t be that complicated to figure out,” assured Zaron. “Nyte should only have to increase the formula’s potency and then it should properly transform the eater completely.” Zaron then turned to his two Pikachu minions Chuchu and Joule, both looking ready and eager to serve their master at the utterance of a single command. “Joule, would you please go report this to him at once.”
“Right away, Zaron,” he spoke happily while Chuchu looked destroyed not being included. He gave Chuchu a smug look like he had been officially declared Zaron’s favorite and then went to complete his assigned task.
“Uh, Master Zaron,” Chuchu told him. “I’m sure you meant for me to be included too, right? I mean, it’s so obvious that you wanted me to handle this that you didn’t even have to tell me to do it.”
“Chuchu,” said Zaron, though the chubby Pikachu continued to ramble on.
“In fact, you probably didn’t even mean to tell Joule to do this, right?” he continued. “Probably just a slip of the tongue. But don’t worry, I’ll take care of it for you.”
“That’s enough, Chuchu,” spoke a rather annoyed-sounding Zaron. “I gave my orders and they will be followed by who I gave them too.”
“B-But, sir,” he cried.
“It’s perfectly fine,” Zaron assured him. “I only need one for this simple task. Just take it easy till I need you. With how things are going, we’ll be sending out cheese to Pikafy the entire region. I’ll have to spread out and increase my legion of Dufflepouch Raichu to better manage as we expand our reach. By then, I’ll probably be far too immobile to even lift one of girthy, ten ton fingers. When that happens, I’ll need all the help from my little chus I can get. Understand?”
“Yes sir,” he nodded, sounding a bit better.
“Good, then go take it easy for now,” he smiled and watched Chuchu take his leave. “Now, I’d best get to the shipping department. If we’re on the verge of a breakthrough with this recipe then I wanna make sure we get it ready to be shipped out asap.”
“What about us, boss?” wondered the Raichu.
“For bringing me this wonderful news, you both can go enjoy some Pikachubs,” instructed Zaron. “Have as many as you want, because I get the feeling quantity will no longer be an issue.”
“Thank you, sir,” they saluted him. “What should we do with this guy?” They all looked at Guts, still entranced.
“He’ll be fine on his own, in his current condition,” decided Zaron. “It shouldn’t take Nyte long to make the adjustments and create a test batch. Once he does, I’ll use it on him to see if we can fully transform him.” With that, they all left, leaving Guts alone in Zaron’s office.
“There’s gotta be a way out of these cages,” groaned Luna as she and the others tried with all their might to force their way out.
“It’s no good,” replied Lucky. “They won’t budge.”
“If my psychic powers could come back, I could bust us all out of here easily,” commented Seer. “But, if we make it out of this mess, it might be prudent to recruit a brawny addition to the team.”
“I’ll make a mental note on that,” Holmes told her. “But, till then. We have to find a way to escape on our own.”
“Or you could say please,” said Chuchu as he waved to them.
“A Pikachu escaped?” questioned Lucky as he looked at the ones around them. “Did he squeeze out with all that blubber?”
“I remember you. How long have you been there?” asked Seer. “You were the receptionist at Town Hall.”
“You know him?” questioned Luna.
“Yeah, he’s working with Zaron,” she explained. “Did you come for some diabolical purpose or something?”
“No, nothing like that,” he replied, his ears drooping down. “I can here to bust you all out so you can stop Zaron’s mad plan.”
“That’s great!” cheered Lucky. “Then we can go and save Guts.”
“That’s also very unexpected,” added Holmes. “You’re a Pikachu, yet you were a loyal follower of Zaron. I figured you made a deal with him in order to save yourself. Why risk all that to betray him and why now?”
“Actually, a long time ago, an overdose of his pheromones turned me into a blindly loyal and loving minion to him,” he explained as he teared up and brought a chubby arm up to wipe his nose. “I helped him devour countless other Pikachu after that, but, after a while, I returned to my senses. I just kept playing the part in order to avoid getting eaten, but I can’t just go along with it any more. Not when he plans to devour the entire region.” He then averted his eyes, some bitterness added to his tone. “And, apparently, he’s got a new favorite chu so my days might be numbered anyway. Which is why he’s got to be stopped here and now. Can you guys really defeat him?”
“That fat rat has our friend,” stated Luna. “Of course we will. Now, let us out of here and bring us to him.”
“Gladly,” he sniffled and used the key to free them from their cages. “Come on. It’s time to give Zaron a great, big surprise.
“There ya go,” presented Mischief Nyte as he presented Zaron with a bowl full of Pikacheese. “I’m 97.86% certain that this batch will be able to turn any Pokemon into a Pikachu.”
“That was quite fast,” he admitted. “It hasn’t even been more than ten minutes.”
“From what you’ve told me, the effects of the last batch finally yielded positive results,” he explained. “Meaning it did work, the only problem was that the compound wasn’t strong enough, so I simply quantumly enhanced it to ensure it will be far more potent to completely override the eater’s DNA and make them a full Pikachu. Feed him this bowl and I can practically guarantee you that he’ll be so Pikachu you probably won’t even be able to tell the difference.”
“That’s all I needed to hear,” he salivated with delight. “Finally, my destiny draws near.” Taking the bowl in his chubby paws, he made his way back to his office and Guts. As he opened the door, however, he found the Chespin was not where he had left him. “Gone? Were the pheromones not as effective on him because he wasn’t a full Pikachu yet?”
In a bit of a panic, the gargantuan Raichu waddled around his office, desperately searching for the chubby Pokemon. His heart pounded in his chest, feeling a bit of dread for the first time in forever. “No, I can’t have gotten careless now of all times,” he sweated. “I can’t have-” He paused mid sentence as he found Guts, sitting on the floor as he happily munched on a block of cheese that Zaron had left in his office. With half of it eaten, the Pokemon was already looking plumper than before.
“Chu!” Guts chimed happily before taking another bite of the gouda.
“You scared me, little guy,” panted Zaron as he carefully got down and picked him up. “But, anyway, time for your big Chuing Out Party. After that, you’ll be fattened and I’ll get to gobble you up. Now, let’s get going. I’ve had a special table set up just for this momentous occasion.”
“Chu!” squeaked Guts, blissfully smiling in the face of his approaching demise.
“Are we almost to Zaron?” asked Holmes as they ventured through a few rooms of the factory. With Chuchu’s help, they were able to avoid being spotted and make their way without incident.
“Just a little further,” promised Chuchu as they entered a big round room with a spiral staircase to the top. In the middle of the room were more of those feeding chairs like the ones Luna had seen the Raichu used on that one Pikachu. Higher up, they saw a massive table that looked like someone was about to go have dinner. “Right up there. It is almost Zaron’s dinnertime and he always has his special meals in here.”
Looking up, they could hear as a door opened and the massive Raichu entered. In his arms was the chubby Chespin, their friend, Guts. “There they are,” said Luna. “And it looks like Zaron is getting ready to eat him.”
“Quick,” instructed Chuchu. “Quietly follow me up and we’ll ambush him.”
Nodding, they followed the chubby chu up the spiral stairs, moving as quickly and quietly as they could. The closer they got, the more clearly they could hear the fat Raichu and another Pikachu talking to him.
“It’s the moment of truth,” commented Joule. “To see if you really can create a Pikachu from anything.”
“It is indeed,” he nodded. “Now, where is Chuchu? He should be here for this epic moment.”
“Don’t worry, I’m right here,” spoke Chuchu as he leapt up from the staircase and onto the upper floor. Team Unown was right behind him, but before they could get up there too, Chuchu closed the gate on them and locked it with a padlock. “Present and accounted for, Master!”
“Chuchu?” cried Seer. “What are you doing?”
“I just thought my master would like to see to the elimination of the entire group opposing him in one tasty meal,” he answered.
“Then you freed us from one cage just to put us in another,” figured Holmes. “I suppose I shouldn’t expect any less from one of Zaron’s minions.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” he replied, as he made his way over to hug at Zaron’s haunches.
“Heheh, it seems I taught you well,” smirked Zaron. “Well, now that you’re here, we can get started.”
“Ugh, this can’t be happening,” cried Luna as they tried to force their way up to no avail. “We’re so close and yet we can’t do anything.”
“Maybe we should try finding another way up there,” suggested Lucky.
“No good on that,” pointed out Seer as she looked down below at a trio or Raichu waving to them. “We’ll be caught the second we go down there.”
“Then what are we gonna do?” worried Lucky.
“I’m… I’m not sure,” admitted Holmes as he thought as hard as he could to come up with a solution.
“There is no answer to how to defeat me,” bragged Zaron. “I am the inevitable end to all Pikachu and that’ll include all of you once I’ve done what I’m about to do to this fellow over here. Now, I hope you’ve saved room for a little more Pikacheese, lil guy.”
“Chu,” Guts chimed as Zaron started to feed him the latest formula of the transformative cheese. Munching the first few, Gut happily enjoyed eating them, though there didn’t seem to be any noticeable changes to his body. However, as he continued to eat, everyone began to notice as his fur started to lighten up as yellow patches began to appear all over him. His body also started changing shape, taking on a more mouse-like figure, or more accurately a more Pikachu-like one.
“It’s working! It’s working!” sounded a delighted Zaron as he continued to watch, seeing the brown markings appear on Guts’s back and then the red spots on his cheeks. Next, his tail started to extend and flatten before taking on a zigzag lightning bolt shape.
“This is like some kind of nightmare,” cried Seer seeing their friend become an entirely different Pokemon before their eyes. “Guts, you have to stop eating or he’ll eat you!”
“Chu,” he merely spoke with a mawful of cheese as he continued to eat, sparks crackling from his cheeks as he happily continued to eat till the last of the cheese was consumed.
“Now, let’s see how we did,” smirked Zaron, lifting up the overly plump Pikachu to look him over with a careful eye. “Mmhmm… uh huh… looks right…” He gave him a whiff. “Smells right.” Sticking his tongue out he gave his face a very long lick. “Oh hohoh and he definitely tastes delicious! We’ve done it! An endless supply of Pikachu is now mine!”
“Just a region’s worth,” corrected Joule. “But it should hold you over for, maybe a month.”
“And by then we’ll have started shipping to all the other regions,” he salivated at just the thought. “And then we really will be living on a planet of Pikachus.” Zaron then turned to the rest of Team Unown watching him. “Men, get those four and bring them up here to me. We’ll give them all a batch of this cheese. Best to perform multiple tests, just in case.”
“Got a plan yet?” sweated Luna as she looked at Holmes. “Otherwise this might be it for us.”
“We can’t go down,” he stated. “Seer, still no go on the psychic powers?”
“They’re starting to return,” she answered. “Just not enough to teleport us.”
“Can you maybe try breaking the lock with them?” he asked.
“Let me try,” she replied, focusing on it. The lock rose up and with all her might, she attempted to pry it from the gate, but after almost a minute she dropped to her knees in frustration. “No good. I need more time for all my power to return.”
“Can we maybe get a time out?” asked Lucky to the Raichu as they made their way up to them, walking single file due to their big bulk.
“Sure, you can take it in here,” cackled the Raichu as he used his tail to try and suck him up.
“Not this again!” cried Seer.
“We’re not going to let them suck us up again,” shouted Luna as she held on tight along with the others to resist the pull from his tail vacuum.
“Guess it’s time to eat,” salivated Zaron as he picked up Guts with great eagerness.
“Chu!” cried the former Grass-Type as he struggled against his captor’s grip. His cheeks sparked as he attempted to zap the Raichu with electricity, but it did little more than make him chuckle.
“It takes time and practice to build up enough electricity to do any real damage,” spoke Zaron. “Not that you’ll be able to get any. Well, over the lips, past the gums, look out stomach, here Pikachu comes!”
Tossing Guts into the air over his head, Zaron opened his maw wide, ready to catch him in his maw and swallow him in one satisfying gulp. The rest of Team Unown stared in horror as they continued to hold on for dear life and Chuchu and Joule watched, eager to see their master triumph.
As Guts tumbled desperately in the air, he reached the zenith of his assent and then started to drop back down towards that great big maw. However, his eyes weren’t lost in the euphoria of pheromones or tearful with fear. They had a strong determination of one that hadn’t given up yet.
“I am not chu yet!” he cried he swung a fist forward in a seemingly futile effort. However, as he did, he unleashed Vine Whip, the attack swinging at Zaron, and smacking him hard in the side of his face. Taken completely by surprise, the attack sent him falling on his side, breaking the chair he sat on with a mighty CRASH!!!
“Guts!” cried his team, as he landed safely on the massive Raichu’s flab and bounced off.
“You’re okay!” spoke Seer tearfully happy.
“Chu better believe it,” he nodded and knocked Joule and Chuchu away with more Vine Whips, knocking the key out of the latter's mits. Taking it, he undid the lock to give the rest of his team a way out of their own predicament.
“He’s still making puns, but I’m okay with that,” sighed Luna.
“You lot aren’t getting away that easily,” the Raichu in the front spoke as he chased after them. “You’ll pay for disgracing our leader!”
The rest of the team managed to get up, but before Lucky could, he got caught in the suction again and pulled back towards the Raichu’s tail. “Lucky!” cried Guts as he slipped through the team’s paws.
“Hahah! Gotcha!” he cheered feeling something enter into his tailpouch. When he went to look, he found it wasn’t the dizzy panda Pokemon, but a lit bomb that was about to go off. “How?!?” he cried as his face went completely pale.
KA-BOOOOOM!!!
The bomb exploded, KOing the Raichu and destroying the stairs he and the other two Raichu were on, sending them falling all the way down. Lucky, just barely out of range, got up and happily reunited with the rest of the team, not sure what just happened themselves.
“How did you do that?” asked Holmes.
“I have no idea, but lucky that it did,” he smiled.
“Lucky, but that’s the thing about luck,” groaned Zaron getting up, not the least bit happy at his food’s defiance. “It can’t last forever. Now, time for all of you to get in my belly, Pikachu or not!”
“He’s really angry now,” sweated Luna.
“We’d best make a run for now,” advised Homes as they turned to the door to make their escape, however, another group of Raichu burst through them first. Mischief Nyte was with them too.
“More of these guys,” groaned Holmes. “Where’s the National PokeGuard when you need them?”
“Master Zaron!” the Raichu cried as they ran past Team Unown. “The National PokeGuard has entered the city and they’re arresting our men.”
“Here, apparently,” replied Seer in disbelief at this turn of events.
“What?” he cried, growing even more tense at this new development. “Why are they here? How could they have known?”
“I told them,” answered Guts. “While I was left alone in your office I saw the phone by the bowl of Pikacheese. I gave them a call and all I had to do till they arrived was stay alive.”
“You little cheese ball!” roared Zaron. “You… YOU!!!”
“How chu like me now?” he taunted the Raichu that looked ready to use Self-Destruct.
“I think I’ll enjoy devouring you most of all,” he answered as he lunged at Team Unown to smother them in his bulk.
“Seer, if there was ever a time to deus ex machina us outta somewhere, it’d be here and now,” cried Holmes.
“I’m trying,” she replied, focusing with all her might. “I’m try-” Seer used teleport and the entire team was gone. Zaron landed on nothing but the cold hard floor.
“NOOO!!!” he wailed, completely defeated, kicking and screaming like a spoiled child that couldn’t get his way.
“M-M-Master,” whimpered Chuchu. “What should we do now?”
Breathing hard for several seconds, Zaron managed to calm his nerves and regain his composure. “Was the cheese already sent out?”
“We had it prepared to go, but if the National PokeGuard is here, all of the cheese will just be collected and never make it to market,” Nyte explained. “That being said, I can save most of it, if I act quickly before they reach here. Also, we’ve still got the formula completed so we can always begin production again, once you’ve found a new base of operation.”
“Then this wasn’t a total loss,” he spoke. “Merely a slight setback. My goal is not too far off. For now, everyone will just have to do their best to escape the city and the PokeGuard. This territory is lost to us, but we will survive to eat another day. Tell that to the others. Also tell them, we are not done, not by a long shot.” Zaron then turned to Nyte. “Are you willing to help us outta here?”
“You’re one of my best customers,” he admitted. “And I wouldn’t get paid for all my work if you end up behind bars. Very well, but I’ll tack this little rescue onto your bill.”
“Chuchu… Joule,” spoke Zaron. “Looks like it’s time for us to go.”
“Till our next big adventure,” they cheered hugging their leader’s big belly as they were warped out of their fallen city.
It took a few days for the PokeGuard to completely capture any of the remaining Dufflepouch Raichu, that hadn’t already escaped, and fully restore order to the town. After what felt like an eternity under the rule of that gargantuan Pikachu-craving Zaron, the fear faded from the citizens and a wonderful feeling of hope returned to them. In celebration, the town threw a big party to celebrate their freedom, but amidst all the joy, despair still lingered in the air over the loss of so many of their own, the countless Pikachu that were consumed, as well as the pseudo-chus that became victims soon after, and any other Pokemon that attempted to defy Zarion and his forces only to be dealt with in the usual manner.
“We have lost much in the wake of Zaron’s return,” spoke a Meowth, a member of the PokeGuard that had lead the assault on the Dufflepouch Raichu. He had on a pair of sunglasses and toothpick sticking out of his maw. “We have incurred incalculable losses and there is nothing more that can be done but rebuild and continue onward, not just for ourselves, but for those who have found their end in the stomach of those vorers. I would also like to personally thank Team Unown, who played no small part in helping bring this to our attention so that we were able to swiftly land a crushing blow on these fiends and will see to it that every last one of them is brought to justice for their crimes.”
The crowd of Pokemon applauded calmly after hearing his brief speech. The Meowth then stepped down, making his way to the table of honor where Holmes and the rest of his team were seated. Around their necks were medals of honor for what they had done in service of the town. Taking a seat at their table, he merely sighed and rubbed his forehead. “I can deal with fighting criminal scum on a daily basis, but when it comes to public speaking it feels like my heart is about to burst out of my chest.”
“You hide your anxiety well,” commented Holmes. “But I get the feeling that you came over here for more than to just confess to us your phobia.”
“Yeah,” he nodded, removing his shades and placing them on the table, showing his left eye was blue while his right was green. “Special Agent M, it’s a pleasure to meet such a renowned team such as yourself.”
“Special Agent M?” recalled Holmes. “You worked on the Zaron case all those years ago, haven’t you?”
“You say it like the case ended,” he replied. “As far as I’m concerned it was still going on well after that incident and since then I’ve been trying to catch up with Zaron. It’s was rather stupefying that a Pokemon as large as him could be so hard to find. But, before talking about that, there’s the matter of your friend’s condition I wish to discuss with you.”
“Our friend?” asked Guts. “Which friend is that?”
“You,” answered Seer. “Or have you forgotten that you’re still an overweight Pikachu.”
“Is this a condition?” he replied rubbing his double chin. “I thought I just became a Pikachu.”
“Don’t just say it like something like this is a normal occurrence,” sighed Luna.
“But Pokemon evolve all the time,” Lucky reminded them.
“This isn’t anything like evolution,” argued Seer. “Chespin do not evolve into Pikachu.”
“Actually,” interrupted M. “It seems that the principal of this transformation is based around Pokemon evolution. It is more a forced one, but the same, albeit warped, evolution energy is released while the transformation occurs. While doing tests of Guts and the Pseudo-chus we’ve found traces of that energy lingering on them. That’s why, despite the change, Guts is still able to use all the moves he knew while as a Chespin. He should be completely capable of learning Electric-Type moves as well now, too.”
“Neat,” chuckled Guts happily, his cheeks sparking.
“Maybe we should hold out on zappy lessons till we’re far from anyone you can electrocute,” suggested Luna before turning back to Agent M.
“Does that mean there is a way to turn them back to what they once were?” questioned Seer.
“Our scientists believe so, but without the formulas used to change them, all we can do is research the cheese containing the compound and reverse engineer it. Hopefully, we’ll be able to turn them all back, but, at the very least, they aren’t in any, especially about being eaten.”
“Well, even if I don’t turn back, I don’t mind being a Pikachu. I’m already coming up with a ton more jokes I can tell. Can chu dig it?”
“Please, for the sake of our sanity,” begged Luna. “Can you turn him into something that doesn’t talk?”
“Even we are only Pokemon,” admitted M. “Anyway, there’s a matter I wish to discuss with you lot. Can I trust you to keep it a secret?”
“Of course,” nodded Holmes before he looked at the rest of the team to assure they understood as well.
“Despite what we’ve told everyone here,” he went on. “The assault of the Dufflepouch Raichu was far from the success we’ve made it out to be. At best, we’ve captured a quarter, maybe a third of their full force. The rest managed to escape the city and go into hiding. We’ve currently got agents searching around to apprehend them, but, by now, they’re likely beyond our reach until they surface again. My greatest regret is that Zaron is among those who have escaped, meaning he has slipped from my paws, after I’ve finally managed to catch up to him.”
“I feared as much,” admitted Holmes. “We had no choice but to retreat at the time. If we could have ensured he remained in the factory until backup arrived we could have captured him too.”
“Don’t blame yourselves,” M replied. “If Zaron was the type of Pokemon who could be caught in a Pokeball, we would have apprehended him ages ago. Sadly, it is only a matter of time till he will surface again and then there will be more victims. We’re already certain that it will be soon.”
“Why’s that?” asked Seer.
“While checking the cheese factory,” he told them. “We discovered a large quantity of the special cheese they were working on was missing. Somehow, someone managed to transport it away and if it is the kind that can turn Pokemon into Pikachu, we have no doubt that it’ll be mixed in with the cheese supply all over the region to turn more Pokemon into Pikachu. When that happens, it’ll only cause Zaron to become emboldened and I can only hesitate a guess at what he’ll attempt next.”
“Well, whatever it is,” stated Guts. “We’ll definitely stop him.”
“Heh,” chuckled M. “I heard you were key in putting an end to Zaron’s hold on this town. I’m certain he’ll be craving to devour you more than any other Pikachu he’s ever eaten before. To be willing to face that monster again, you certainly must be the bravest Pikachu ever.”
“Chu cheddar brie-lieve it,” joked Guts. Everyone save for Lucky groaned upon hearing that.
WomblesfanBack at the tavern, the Raichu continued to watch as Guts ate his weight in cheese.
