Found my old artwork folder!
I guess I'll be posting some of these old stuff into scraps. Most have me shaking my head, though some I actually don't think are too bad.
Old, incomplete wallpaper attempt I made from perhaps 2007 or 2008, using Photoshop 5.0 (because I was a poor student). Looking back I can see a few issues with it, but generally I think it came out okay.
So I've had this complicated story idea in my head for a long time, maybe 2000-2001. I was never really into fantasy as a kid, preferring science fiction (though I did like reptiles-my favorite childhood books were Jurassic Park and Raptor Red)-this probably was related to my future career in biology. Then in high school I saw (on TV) the movie Dragonheart, and suddenly I thought, what if all those dragons from mythology and fantasy didn't want to be killed? I gradually developed a story from there.
I originally planned on doing a comic book, and I would try long detailed sketches late into the night (coincidentally that helped my schoolwork, as it incentived me to do homework fast and well). Still I eventually found that I never had the patience for drawing, especially long, detailed scenes and I gradually shifted to writing (also photography, which took off from my need for detailed backgrounds).
And then around 2007-2008 my roommate came to me and said. "Hey there's a book series I like that I think you'd be interested in. It's based off of the English War of Roses and involves dragons. It's called 'A Game of Thrones' by a guy named George RR Martin."
I read GoT and that pretty much put an end to all my writing and work on my story, as everything I developed and wrote seemed to pale in comparison to GRRM's prose and drama.
Then in 2017 that same friend came to me and said "Hey there's a book series I like that I think you'd be interested in. It's somewhere between ASOIAF and LOTR. It's called 'Wheel of Time: Eye of the World' by a guy named Robert Jordan."
I read Eye of the World and thought, if RJ could write such a LoTR ripoff I can certainly try doing better.
So I restarted my story.
Anyways I guess I may use some of these 11-12 year old stuff as references for some future commissions.
