Shfff….
Seph rolled over in his bed, half-asleep. “Mrmff…” He muttered, arms wrapping around himself. Can’t be time to wake up yet…, he thought to himself, It’s too cold…
He turned over again, this time the covers sliding fully off of him. He sighed and sat up, shivering. Why couldn’t he have been born a wolf, with a thick coat of fur? He got up, walking to the small bag of clothes he had. It wasn’t much, just a few shirts and a some pairs of pants, but it would have to do.
He pulled on a plain pair of blue jeans, having gone to bed in just a pair of underwear. He dug through his bag, pulling out a blood red t-shirt. He pulled it on, then grabbed a cotton flannel shirt from the bag. He slipped it on, buttoning it carefully.
Done dressing, he unlocked his door, stepping out. His bare feet padding softly on the floor. He glanced at the clock and cocked his head. 6:24 A.M. Far, far too early to be normal for him. He looked at the counter, and stopped walking.
Evan sat at the counter, looking tired. The panther was eating a bowl of cereal, wearing an orange sleeveless t-shirt and a pair of denim blue jeans. He hadn’t noticed Seph yet.
Seph slowly padded to the corner of the hall, so that Evan wouldn’t see him. He must have work today, the dragon thought. He breathed quietly, not wanting to let Evan know he was there just yet.
He stood there for a few minutes, listening the panther eat quietly. He took in a deep, quiet breath, and stepped out. He smiled widely as Evan looked up, and the smile widened a bit further as the panther gave him a gentle smile of his own.
Seph went to a cupboard, hoping that it held cereal. It didn’t. He closed it, a bit embarrassed, opening another. No luck. He tried another. Nothing. He knew he was blushing, now. He didn’t even know where the cereal was…
Suddenly, Evan’s hand was on his arm, moving it to a certain cupboard. The dragon opened it, and, lo and behold, there was the cereal. He grabbed a box at random and turned around, smiling up at Evan through his blush. “Th-thanks.”
“No problem.” The panther grinned widely, as if knowing something Seph didn’t.
He just shrugged, grabbing a bowl from one of the cupboards he had opened previously. He poured the cereal in, then put the box back. He pulled a spoon from a drawer, luckily the correct one. He moved to sit beside Evan, and the two ate in silence.
Seph blushed silently, trying not to move closer to Evan. The panther was warm, and well…it was cold. The panther solved this, though.
When he had finished eating, Evan put his arm around Seph’s shoulders and dragged him closer, chair and all. The dragon blushed as red as a cherry, almost choking on a mouthful of cereal. He got it down, and looked up at the panther.
Evan merely shrugged. “You were shivering.”
Seph smiled softly at the big panther, his blush deepening still. He tried to go back to eating. He really did. But Evan was being so…different. So…nice. It was so lovely.
Evan smiled gently, leaning in to whisper into Seph’s ear…
“…and traffic on 1-27 will be heavy this afternoon, due to a thick rain…”
Seph groaned, the dream disappearing back into his head. He sat up. It was sweltering out. He looked at his clock; 12:30 P.M. He didn’t need to be at work until 3:30. He sighed, pulling his knees up. “Why can’t my dreams come true for once…”
A sudden knock at his door caused him to jump, and he blushed as Evan poked his head in. The panther seemed to blush a bit at seeing Seph in his underwear, and the dragon hurried to pull the covers up.
“Er…just, wanted to make sure you were alright…You’ve been asleep an awful while…” The panther seemed to be having trouble keeping his voice level.
Seph smiled gently. “I’m fine…Really. I don’t have to be at work until half past three.”
Evan nodded, but didn’t seem to want to leave. Seph mentally giggled, but tried to put on a stern face, sliding out from under the covers, sitting on the edge of his bed. He looked up at Evan, who’s face had gotten redder.
Now Seph did laugh. “Are you going to watch me dress, or what?” he joked, grinning widely.
Evan smiled, trying to hide his blushing. He retreated, slowly closing the door with a soft “Click!” He sighed gently, resting on the back of the door. Why did he have to be so damned shy? He could’ve stayed in there if he wanted to. God damnit! he thought to himself, If I’m shy, and he’s too afraid of asking me out, then how’s this gonna’ get anywhere?! He sighed again, gently pushing off the door. He walked into the living room, flopping onto the couch.
He looked up as Seph opened his door, walking out. He wore a simple white t-shirt that showed off his upper body, and a pair of khaki shorts. It…It suited him, Evan thought. The panther tried to hide his blush, looking down.
Seph caught the look, and could see Evan’s blush. He stopped at the end of the hall, biting the inside of his lip softly. Impasse, he thought to himself.
Evan rolled onto his back. He knew he was blushing. He also knew he didn’t care. He tentatively opened his arms, inviting the dragon to rest in them.
Seph’s eyes visibly widened, and he blushed gently. He walked forward, moving carefully. Was this another dream? How many times would he wake up? Would he -
Plumph!
He fell on Evan’s chest, causing the panther to let out a gentle “Oof!” Seph blushed profusely, trying to stammer an apology. Evan wrapped his arms protectively around the dragon, pulling him onto himself. He smiled gently at Seph, shushing him.
Seph didn’t know what to do. His face was a red mass of blush, his body afire with embarrassment and gratification. Evan ever so gently put a hand on the back of Seph’s head, puling the dragon’s muzzle down to meet his own. The two kissed for a long moment, the dragon getting over the initial shock.
They finally separated, their eyes locking, both filled with happiness and joy.
“Seph…Seph, would you like to go to dinner with me tomorrow night?” Evan asked, his normally gruff voice soft and gentle.
The dragon smiled, and nodded. “I’d love to.”
The two kissed again, not wanting the moment to end.
