"C'mon, c'mon!" Der shouted excitedly.
"I'm coming, keep your shirt on," Dan fired back. "Boy, you don't usually get this excited about the new talent."
"Oh, I think you'll find it's worth making an exception," Ru replied, grinning. "Now don't look at who's in there."
"Okay, okay." Dan stepped into the control room, averting his eyes from the window. He settled down next to Der's seat, grabbing a pair of headphones. The dingo sat in the master seat, donning his own pair and adjusting a few knobs. He started the recording and motioned to the occupants. Dan's ears were soon filled with the sounds of an early hit by "The Mamas and the Papas".
You gotta go where you wanna go
Do what you wanna do
With whoever you wanna do it with
You gotta go where you wanna go
Do what you wanna do
With whoever you wanna do it with
As he listened, Dan made a 'Not bad' gesture with his hand. A moment later, however, another voice joined in.
You don't understand
That a girl like me can love just one maaaaan
"Damn, it's Mama Cass come back from the dead! Get her a contract!" Dan exclaimed. Another grin from Der and Ru. "What?"
Three thousand miles, that's how far you'll go
And you said to me
'Please don't follooooow'
As the last line began, Ru spun Dan's chair around. His eyes widened and his tail puffed up in shock as he discovered that the singer was none other than his own daughter Vicky.
"Say hello to The West Islanders."
After seeing the folk rock documentary "Echo in the Canyon" at the movies last weekend, the Jakob Dylan-Jade Castrinos duet of Go Where You Wanna Go stuck with me. After a while, the idea of Vicky having a voice on her when she grows up started to jell. And now here she is, recording with her group at Dan and Alex's recording studio in Montreal, run with
Dereck Dingo as business partner and producer.
