Jorah Kalder.
Not quite Merfolk, not quite Dragonope.
Jorah Kalder is a character of mine inspired by Näcken, Nøkken, Fossegrim, or Strömkarlen from Scandinavian folklore.
Näcken was a creature that scared me quite a bit as a kid. He's said to be an attractive young man who plays the fiddle so beautifully that it might lure people into the water in which he lives where they drowned. He's usually neither malevolent nor benevolent but is said to teach the fiddle to those who aspire to become masters of the instrument.
My version of the character was created by the spirit of the forests, waters, winds, sun, and moon when Scandinavia first became settled by humans. He serves as a guardian between the realm of magic - known to Brits as Avalon, and Swedes as Vanaheim or Alfheim - and the human world. Scandinavia has a long history of magic intermingled with the human world, faith-wise. In Norse folklore, parts of Sweden were known as places such as Alfheim and Jötunheim. So I figured it could be a good way to pay homage to that. He's a shape shifter, but only knows how to change his tail into human legs. A skill he acquired after a few thousand years of trial and error. He has the potential to do practically anything as his life force consists of the purest magic, his body was formed by the trees from the silt of the lakes, the moon painted his skin, the depths painted his hair and serpentine scales, the water gave him life, and the sun gave him love. And the wind let him have all the voices of nature and skill with each instrument be it natural or made. His music helps calm the mist faeries' raging dance. It helps soothe the fire serpents hiding in the deep forests, and calms the mischievous brownies. He makes sure that the faerie creatures that still remain in the human realm doesn't cause trouble for themselves and each other, and he makes sure no human can ever tell the tale if they were to see what they were not supposed to see. He loves humans, but has to end their life if they observe anything from the faerie realm.
He lives in lake Hornavan most of the time, has a Lynx as a friend and guardian named Lo.
He doesn't belong to my Eikomene realm, but is an oc of mine I use for Roleplay at Wrealms.com
