In my opinion? A power fantasy. Instead of grabbing real Captain Marvel he is satisfied with tying up a toy in exchange, capturing Abbie just to fill in the blanks. He would probably want to see big powerful Captain Marvel all tied up and barefooted, shamed and put besides the person she was meant to save in similar position, only to be shown dastardly fate she was going to suffer.
