Cloudkill is a nasty spell that creates a mass of poisonous fumes that have varying levels of effect, depending on the HD of the creature, but all of them are lethal in nature. Since this is a standard gnoll, he had 2 HD.
Sadly for our gnoll, anyone below 3 doesn't even receive a saving throw. He'll probably keel over momentarily.
