Reminds me a bit of Perry the Platypus on Phinias and Ferb...
We here in Australia have such whacked-out animals. Monotremes are the only mammals that lay eggs. How weird is that?

Marsupials and Monotremes are our speciality. Where-else on Earth can you find poisonous mammals, as well as a creature that can actually halt the growth of a foetus until they want it to continue?

Platypus and echidna - last of an ancient subclass of mammals that differs so deeply that whether they are related to other mammals is a debatable concept. Perhaps parallel evolution of wholly unrelated stock.

The same may be said of marsupials, another subclass.
