Dude, this is my first time DMing so I may not be any help if you want to follow the rules of D&D. I just make a story that my players are happy to play, make interesting weapons and gear like: A dagger with a chip blade/1D4 crits on a 19 or higher and deals damage to the user on a 5 or lower. I just have as much fun as I can and allow my players to have fun too. Now if you all want to optimize don't be like me as they will force you to optimize your enemies and that doesn't end up being fun.
Fair. Well all I can say is have fun with it. As the DM you’re telling a story and your players are reacting to it. Plan the base of the story out but don’t expect that they will follow it to the T.
Also make up as many weird weapons as you can, same with skills. For my campaign my players can all use skills but are limited to 4 at a time and can’t use it every other turn.

I've had at max 7-8 players in the groups I've been a part of so far. Things get super chaotic, but it's always fun. Would be kinda nice to have a group that's a little smaller, but I love playing with them all.
Anyway, I have to say that these designs are pretty fantastic. Anu's design in particular I'm rather fond of. Especially the design of the footwear. I guess I just have a bit of a soft spot for Barbarians. They're kinda my personal favourite class.

My favorite is actually the Ranger class. Mainly because everyone doesn't think it's really any good. You can either be a Rogue or a fighter with the Arrow fighting style. But I like having a blend of rogue and fighter that can still cast spells. Too bad none of my players are a Ranger -.-.
I have a Barbarian, two rogues, a druid, mage and a monk. NO HEALERS!!!! so I had to give cure to my mage and Druid just to have some heals XD.

We actually had a similar problem in my very first group. Closest we have to healers are our Druid, Bard, and Paladin. But we've made up for it with our second game, where we actually DO have a Cleric. Granted she's a Tempest Cleric, but still. Better than a half caster off healer.
Funny enough, that's one of the classes I want to give a go the most. Ranger's feel like they have a lot of potential if you know what you're doing. Granted, Revised Ranger would probably be my go to. But I'm still eager to give the class a try should I ever get the opportunity. I mean, seriously: providing food for the group, and your spells are centred around trapping enemies. A class that's built around you being clever. How can you not love that?^^

I know right! I played a sniper ranger in my last D&D group before getting kicked out for the lack of communication. But my god was I deadly. Added + 11 to my hit and +6 to all damage. Plus Sharpshooter and a plus 10 to damage. I kinda pissed my DM off when I did over 60 points of damage because of one Nat 20. I can still hear him: “don’t ever tell me that your character is underpowered ever again”
Alas I wasn’t able to finish that campaign. And now I have a Kenku that’s just wondering the world. T.T

Damn! I'd say that's something to be proud of, if you ask me. We had a Ranger for a one off, and she was a beast of a tank. 21 AC! And I swear, not one attack landed. Not one! Granted, the guy playing the character grabbed the Defence Fighting Style to help along with that. But still, Rangers just seem to be the underdog class. And boy do they deliver.
Best wishes that you can bring your Ranger back someday, mate.
