Found this old photo of a rabbit I used to have. Her name was Dotty, and she was one of the meanest pets I ever had the pleasure of owning.
She was very sweet when we picked her out at the petstore--turns out that she was only sweet because she was pregnant. After she had her litter, she turned into a rather foul-tempered little beastie.
Later on, she had another litter, and was again very sweet and snuggly and nice. Amazing what those maternal hormones will do.
Anyway, nasty disposition or not, she was well-loved and cared for, and I was sad to see her go. I don't know exactly how old she lived to be (if only because I'm not sure how old she was when we bought her), but I want to say we had her for six or seven years before we woke up one morning and found her dead in the cage.
Anyway, the moral of the story is that all pets deserve love and care--even the nasty bitey ones that turned out nothing like you thought they would. Once you take an animal into your home, it's your responsibility, for better or worse.

I know exactly what you mean... I have a rabbit of my own (Periwinkle) and I thought maybe I could turn her around for the better if I cared enough for her, but she still hates me. She lived in a hutch for the better part of her infancy, and I got her when she was about a month old. Now she's just big, grunty and short-tempered.
But I still love her, and I try to pet her even though she gets upset with me. :B
I don't bother trying to pick her up, though... that just results in nasty scratches.

She is cute I have a gerbil who is kind of bitey (more like attack-gerbil, she actually managed to bite through the skin on my finger once!) We got her as a rescue, she is slightly handicapped I guess, she seems to have a neck problem and her head it's kinda tilted to one side generally, and she acts kinda crazy. The pet store my BF used to work at was just going to 'destroy' her so we gave her a home to be alive in even if i can't hold her.
