The cheekpouches are accessed by 'flaps' that cover over them, giving his maw a normal appearance, when closed. When he shoves his prey in, it's a simple manner of shoving them left or right, into their specific cheek-pouch to be carried and jostled around. There's also no easy way-out too, given it exits straight into the maw~
