On the new colony planet of Tazero, it had been raining all night. Come the Dawn, two miners set up their equipment for a new day's work.

I'm guessing that's a shoulder-mounted mining laser, then? Could be a now-obsolete military surplus mech that has been appropriated as mining equipment for a colony that can't afford better, which is actually a pretty interesting concept. The two other details that I like in this piece is the Mitsubishi symbol on the mech's chest and the tank treads along the length of the "foot". The latter looks like a pretty useful design feature, especially after heavy rains turn the roads into mud.
Most of our gold comes from huge open pit mines. I can just imagine him clawing a bench of ore into a 250 ton haul truck.
I think that you would love a mine tour. The cab of a big haul truck is boarded via three stories of ladders. It has a couple of dozen computers controlling it, and the driver's seat looks more like the bridge of a starship than a truck cab. All powered by a 5,000 HP turbo diesel engine of the sort used on freight locomotives. Every vehicle in the pit has WAAS enabled GPS, so every vehicle knows where every other vehicle is at all times to within a few feet, so blind turns on the haul roads are never a problem. The mills are the biggest chemical processing plants on earth with daily throughputs equal to the mass of an ocean liner. The local mine produces hundreds of millions of dollars of gold per year. Private megaengineering. Mountains moved. Literally. *drool*

Makes me think about a girl here in FA that her character has a bunny mech (

It was a private joke gone wrong. I thought Mitsubishi had absorbed DATSUN in the late 1970s, and "Datsun" translates in Japanese to "Rabbit." I found out later that it was Nissan that absorbed Datsun. Oh! There's also Chinese characters for "Two" on the Rabbit Mech. "To" is Chinese for "Rabbit" I think.
A story a fellow named James L. Brandt wrote in the "N.A.F.' Fanzine inspired it actually. His story got me to thinking of how a rabbit-morph would design a robot, and I sketched out the head. The next thing I knew, I added the body, legs. motive system, the land rover, and finally the "Abandoned" Arcology in the background.
I've forgoten most of the old Robotech and Macross stuff, so forgive me if I don't recognise any of the terms right away. ^^;
When I first saw "Gundam Wing" I became obsessed witht e genre and the Gundam "universe". Been a Gundam fan ever since! I have a few of the models most of them hav yet to be built. (mostly due to my living situation)
I have a Custome version of the original gundam, the "RX-78-2, the Gundam "Alex", and a VerKa. version of Wing Zero Custom. (different from the Wing Zero Custom from the movie) All og wich are 1/100 scale and of the "Master Grade" skill level. I do however also have a "Perfect Grade" 1/60 scale mode of Wing Zero Custom! It is amazing, made of 700+ parts! XD

Yikes! I think I could learn a thing or two discussing your Gundam collection. The only "Wild Hair" idea I've been entertaining was getting a Gundam Wing kit and kitbashing it into a figure that looks like a drawing of Eric Schwartz's interpretation of Max the Black Rabbit's "Zig Zag" character as a mega-mech. Otherwise, I think the winged Gundam variants are pretty Groovy. Personally, I like the ones that "Convert" like into aircraft or other fighting vehicles.
So you like "Transformable Mobile Suits".
That concept was first used in "Moble Suit Zeta Gundam". (a sequel series to the orginal gundam series) Little known fact, Transformers copied the transforming robot idea. XD
I used to be a major Gundam kit builder. I mostly just built the things and not much else. Soon though I really go into it and was painting parts and what not, but due to finacial stresses I haven't been able to do much with my various hobbies. Asside from planning future projects.

Ever noticed how construction equipment can be weaponized?
For example, the blaster on the shoulder normally used for blasting rock, could be used as a makeshift cannon. And the same armor that makes the mecha durable, could also shrug off projectiles and blows like they were nothing.
Pistons and hydraulics could be used for punching, kicking, slamming. And then there's the use of cutting equipment to slice open enemy mechas.

Now you've got the idea. Also, after WW II was over, some clever fellow made good by converting Sherman Tanks into bulldozers and wrecking machines. Shoot... A simple spade can make a dandy, close quarter weapon, and small cannons can cast lifesaving lines to those in distress.
You may not be the type for the games being released recently, but there are some things of a similar nature.
Fallout 4 has a weapons crafting system, that allows the player to build their own custom weapons, that would not look out of place in a post-apocalypse scenario. Same with Metro 2033 and it's sequel.
The thing is, the weapons that use normal bullets, look believable in function.

Tell me about it. Both my friends Josh and Daniel here at "The Zoo" are constantly playing Video Games and there's a couple I like, but I really don't want to pick up the control box for concerns of adding yet another distraction to my already busy schedule. I will stop and watch "Destiny" and "Wolfenstein 3" (I believe that's the title.) because I like the visual style and action in Destiny, and Wolfenstein plays like a movie which the player has some control in the plot. My only regret in Destiny, they don't have a character set up which I could get into such as a trader or mechanic. I really like those ship designs, but there's no options on opening up the access panels and looking at or tinkering with the engines. In Wolfenstein, I'd sure would like it if the player could have the option of getting into the controls of some of the snazzy "Nazi-Nouveau" aircraft, autos, and even a "Stomper", not only to modify the vehicle's performance, but also create "Booby Traps" or simple sabotage.
I also know I'd most likely become seriously hooked on WoW if I had a machine with the computing power to handle the game. I know they have "Tinkerers" and traders, but my greatest disappointment in that big game is that one can't negotiate between some of the different characters. I'd like to "Talk" with the Gnoll or the Worgen, and learn things instead of watching from a great distance.
Yeah. I feel I missed my calling with the new Video games. In the late 1970s I was quite excited in the prospect of becoming a video game designer, but the technology was very "primitive" then as compared to now. Every time I watch these amazing video games I truly wish I could be out there designing them, instead of playing them.
