Tomb of Annihilation
Waterdeep; Dungeon of the Mad Mage
Based on my own characters each is molded and inspired by various Final Fantasy and other fantasy JRPG games, from the Pooka of Odin Sphere to Lunar Dragons of the Lunar series, with others soon to follow! Wave 1 includes;
Master Grey - Foxling Black Mage
The leader of the group, Master Grey’s primary focus is damage from a distance with some support thrown in for good measure. Blizzard and Blizzaga will chill his foes with the side effect of Stunning them, while his support magics such as Invis and Focara saves his friends from harm while providing them the edge they need to deal the final blows! Quake is also a dangerous power, but is great enough to shift the dungeon itself in your favour. Should he feel particularly daring he can literally put his own life on the line with Soul Tap and recharge his used powers for one last show of power! Be aware that Grey is a glass cannon in every definition, so he should never be placed on the front lines, but give him the task of clean up and he'll prove his worth!
Geri Gava - Pooka Red Mage
The epitome of versatility Geri not only has his own set of melee and magical attacks but can also mimic the powers of his allies as well. Both his At-Will and Daily Powers run the usual gamut of spells and technically advanced melee, but Utility his where Geri can really shine with abilities to see what’s coming in the way of fortune or peril, or the ability to recharge his own powers or those of his allies. Many options present themselves when using Geri to his full potential, or even exploring the potential of those around him!
Rift Law bringer - Lunar Dragon Fighter
The fighter with surprising mobility, he’s equipped to face most situations head on! A bevy of weapons in his arsenal gives him several options to take down anyone who stands in his way. His OgreKiller will make quick work of any who would dare to pick on those not of their own size, while Braveheart turns foe upon foe. To be daring is a requirement of being a fighter, not just to protect yourself with the Crystal Helm but also the ability to protect others with Guard & Cover. Many other weapons in Rift’s stash hold their own mysteries, but Ragnarok and Ultima Weapon will only provide power on their own terms!
Each character comes in a set of two double-sided pages containing all necessary character cards, power cards and tokens unique to each one. Grey who uses powers and tokens that refer to rules not necessarily covered in each version of the game will include specific tokens and rule reference cards which can be used in their place.
The final delay for these characters was largely caused by the reveal that the last game in the series, Dungeons of the Mad Mage, would include advancement of characters to levels 3 and 4 which turned out to necessitate the inclusion and development of new 'Expert Power' cards, but also gave me the opportunity to create dedicated Character Cards with stats for each of the new levels instead of using the miniature plates included with the game. If you'd like to use these powers in previous games I would recommend the house rule that the second Daily Power you obtain at level 2 can be substituted for an Expert Power if you'd wish (Allowing either two Dailys or One Daily and one Expert).
When printing out the cards it would be recommended but not required to use a harder card stock if that is an option, however even using plain paper should work just fine. If you cannot print double sided I would recommend a package of card sleeves to not only combine each side but this will also aid in the rigidity of the cards themselves. The size used are 2 1/2x3 1/2 in (63.5x88mm) and should be common enough to be found at any board game or hobby store. Here is the brand that I use.
Similarly there are several standees included to be used in place of miniatures. Three styles are included for your own tastes, however to note that while one style indicates a front and back to the character this is not something that will effect gameplay (this was something included strictly for potential use in other board game expansions I may do in the future). As free standing paper standees follow the top blue fold line first, then to aid in the rigidity of standing fold the feet outward first before folding them back into themselves and hooking on the feet-cuts at the bottom. If you'd prefer something more sturdy than any 1 inch paper standee holder should do. Cheaper options exist at many game-component sites such as these but for the examples used in my photos I used Litko Acrylic stands .
I hope you all find some good use out of these characters. I put a lot of work into finally getting this released and I'm fairly happy with what I've come up with so far. I realize this is an incredibly niche product but any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I plan on having more released soon (with a potential surprise tomorrow!)
