She's half right. Processed spices don't expire, PURE spices, like stuff you grind yourself DO "expire" in that they lose their potency

Is that a fact? Meaning I've been throwing away still usable spices just cause they're past their date? :O

Most processed spices are not that good compared to their self-ground counterparts. However I should have clarified in a sense that they don't expire if you store them properly. However those little spice bottles you buy from the supermarket usually lie when it comes to "going bad." Just keep them sealed and stored in a dry place and they'll last a long time, but eventually, like real spices, they will lose whatever potency they had. So again, they don't really go "BAD" persay

It's true that some spices don't expire since the people of the past have used these things to preserve their foods.

Some spices expire. I tell you curry powder turns into tasteless sawdust after too long. Same with crushed basil.
