Well, that's an interesting way to travel, thought Offick as he relaxed.
It had been almost half an hour since the kaiju left Boise, walking towards an unknown destination and still holding the ant-sized (for it) human between two fingers.
Helicopters comandeered by the Camo squadron (and press helicopters too) followed the gargantuan rooster at a slight distance, not wanting to provoke their "quarry".
The colonel was starting to feel like time was dragging.
Finally, after a few more minutes, the giant entered in a small mountain range, and Carl, to his surprise, saw what was clearly a bunch of buildings in a valley.
The buildings were partially camouflaged, and surrounded by a fence with "KEEP OUT" panels.
The colossus pointed at the buildings in a way Offick could see, before putting him down in front of them.
A man in a lab coat was coming towards him.
"I'm guessing this is the place where he's been created," snarked Offick.
"Pretty hard to deny," snarked back the scientist. "Hey Chet," he added, waving at the titan, who waved back.
"I'm colonel Carl Offick, of the army," presented Offick as the helicopters landed. "And I'd like some explanations."
"Fine. But not to the journalists. Tell them we'll do a press conference later."
Thus was done. The journalists grumbled, but consoled themselves by turning their attention towards the kaiju, who began flexing and basking in it, while the scientist went back to the building, followed by the Camo soldiers.
"We belong to Neo-Asclepius," began the scientist, Cornelius Blutch.
Offick and his men nodded. They knew of Neo-Asclepius, one of the "youngest" societies in pharmaceutical business.
"During our studies and testing on animals for new medicines, we discovered, through an accidental mixing of various products, a compound that theoretically could work as a super growth hormone, doubling, maybe even tripling the size of the user, if it was perfected and stabilized. We began focusing on this new possibility, the "Project Omega-69"."
"For what applications?" asked Offick.
"Isn't it obvious?! Imagine livestock, poultry, all these kinds of animals boosted by the Omega-69! Imagine how much product they'd give more at these sizes! Of course, the costs of maintaining them would be higher too, but much less if we were clever about it! Used efficiently, it could put an end to world hunger!"
His excitation was sincere and almost cute.
"So we truly perfected the compound, and tested it two months ago."
"Let me guess. You had a rooster, a tortoise, a scorpion and a frog?" asked a Camo soldier.
"They were the only animals we had for a test. We made them eat the compound. We were expecting them to swell twice or thrice their size, as I said."
Blutch had a wry smirk.
"We did NOT expect them to swell at human size, mutate in humanoid shapes and become sapient."
"Looks like your compound was too perfect," commented Offick.
Cornelius didn't answer, he was thinking back to the screamfest it had been back then, both scientist and uplifted animals panicking like hell.
"So we started studying them. Samples and physical tests, of course, but also tests on the psychological level. When it became clear they were sapient and as intelligent as humans, we began teaching them too. English, reading, writing, basics on history, maths, morals, etc..."
Well, that answers some questions, thought Offick.
"Yet they don't seem to know to speak," he said aloud.
"We tried to teach them that too, but I'm not sure they're actually biologically capable of."
He chuckled.
"On the other hand, when they discovered bodybuilding through TV, they very quickly took to flexing and showing off their bulk."
A silence.
"Two weeks ago, they were sent to other, official labs. They were supposed to be shown to explain the bigwigs what happened and get them to greenlight more researches on the Omega-69."
The scientist looked by the window, where they could see the giant rooster still indulge in good-natured flexing for the press.
"And a few days later, they start growing, and turn into fucking giants in barely a few minutes. And right now, we have no idea how."
"No idea?"
"No! They never touched to the Omega-69 after that day, it was locked and safe! We don't know what caused this!"
Another sigh.
"We managed to calm them down, keep them hidden, and got new samples to try and find out what. But earlier today, they all managed to escape their respective labs. I heard from them that they were getting sick of being stuck there and wanted to go out in the world. Well, they did..."
A third sigh.
"I'm afraid of what will happen to them now. What if the government decides to have them studied, dissected, or just killed as a "threat"?"
"I doubt you'll have to worry," said Offick. "With the good they did, they proved they weren't a threat. We'll keep an eye on them, sure, but I don't think there'll be a need to "deal" with this situation. Besides," he added with a smirk, "the public surely wouldn't appreciate that, if their new heroes got treated like that."
Blutch looked at the colonel with surprise, that turned to relief as he saw that he was fully sincere.
"Thanks," he whispered.
Only then did Carl contact his superiors for a report.

Well, hey there! It's been a fair while since my last review, I know, and I apologise. Even in the midst of the lockdown, life's been busy. Less in regards to work, more in regards to personal issues, but I won't go into all that. Besides, I'm sure you'd much rather hear my thoughts on this excellent chapter of Kaiju Rising - 'The truth revealed!' So, here we are! With the celebration for Chet at a close, Chet has grabbed Col. Offick, quite literally! With the soldier held in his grasp, he's set off on a journey - destination, known only to him! So, let's join them, shall we?
After setting off in the last chapter, Chet certainly has covered a lot of ground, especially in just 30 minutes. Of course, being the size of an apartment block means you'll have quite the walking distance! Under the watchful eye of both Camo Squadron and the media, Chet strides along with Offick still held securely in his grip! However, despite the... unique experience and the initial anxiety of such an experience, Offick has shown himself to be impressively brave, adjusting to the situation remarkably well! That said, his position of being held between Chet's fingers has come to a close, with what can only be the place where these Kaiju were created coming into view! Indeed, the appearance of a man who is clearly familiar with Chet proves it beyond all doubt - not that there was any, as they point out! At last Camo Squadron can get some answers! Even if the media can't, but they're quickly satisfied with some showing off from Chet - imagine how valuable that footage would be!
At last, some answers come out! Neo-Asclepius, an up-and-comer in the pharmaceutical industry is the source of these Kaijus! A chance discovery reveals a truly remarkable compound - what is essentially a supercharged growth hormone! As they say, it is entirely plausible such a discovery could cause massive upheaval in the food industry! There is enough food produced to feed every person on the planet, but due to wastage, inequality, and other issues, many still go hungry. With this discovery - Omega-69 - there could be a chance to change that! Imagine a Belgian Blue, one of those enormous, super-muscular cows, twice or even thrice its size! They might even need less animals overall! As they say, efficient, intelligent use of this discovery could quite literally change the world! Of course, it has already changed the world with the appearance of the four Kaiju, but its potential applications could still be approved. Maybe, maybe not. Who knows? Hah, I suppose it was lucky that a Belgian Blue didn't end up getting that formula, imagine how big they'd be! Then again, with how big they'd be, maybe it was unlucky then, ha ha!
Of course, the results were nothing like their initial expectations! However, it must be said, they adjusted very well! Treating them like people and teaching them too! Even if speech is simply not physically possible for them, it's still very impressive! They're not only intelligent, but relatively, well-educated! Although, they haven't learned everything through standard teaching... who says TV can't teach you anything? Ha ha! Naturally, with such dramatic results, they've got to show this to their superiors! Although, their demonstration certainly didn't go according to plan, but the results aren't exactly unwelcome! A good thing for the Kaiju - for Blutch's fears are not exactly unfounded before Offick can put them to rest! Of course, now he's got to report in to his superiors...
This is a fantastic chapter, it's quite a long one, but it's very important to the plot, and it answers a lot of questions for the characters and the readers. There is a lot I like about this chapter, and a few things I think could be changed or improved. So, let's start off with the positives! I feel that Offick adjusting to his position of being held between Chet's fingers provides a nice bit of comedy right from the get go. There's something about the delivery of that line that makes it quite amusing. I also like the introduction of Blutch - it feels like a fairly natural conversation. There's no denying the obvious, and the decision to not reveal details to the media immediately makes sense. It feels like something that would happen in that situation.
I must say, I also appreciate the name of the company, knowing what it means, and their goal. Finally, a company that's interested in doing some good for the world! Of course, they ended up doing good for the world in an entirely different way than they imagined! I also like the fact that teaching the Kaiju was decided on quite quickly, and communication was a key thing they focused on, as well as things that would generally be useful for life, like mathematics and ethics. Of course, their inability to speak hinders their ability to communicate effectively at their current sizes, but they could theoretically communicate in some way! I also like the fact that their transformations, as extraordinary as they were, did not turn them into towering giants right off the bat. Rather, they only grew into these enormous Kaiju later on, and the reasons as to why are a complete mystery at this point, to both the characters and the audience, which creates further mystery, it's like a chain of mysteries.
Those are just the big things for this chapter, there are many other, smaller things I like too. I feel like this is an excellent chapter, and there's not much I could recommend changing up, so I'll just run through what there is quickly! The main thing on this is just small grammar nitpicks, which I'll just go through now to try and keep this bit short: I presume you mean 'Carl, to his surprise', rather than at; a scientist vest seems an odd way of putting it, do you mean a lab coat; I'd say swell to twice or even thrice their size works better than using the word bigger; and finally, at the end, I think it would read more smoothly were it, say, 'wouldn't appreciate that, if their new heroes got treated like that.'
Honestly, other than that, there's really nothing that jumps out at me. This is an excellently written chapter that adds a lot to the plot and the story overall. Excellent work! Apologies for the delay, but I hope this review was helpful to you! Until the next time we talk, take care of yourself, and stay safe!
