Timber Prowler concept 2
Some Alien predators concepts I made for the
Kessavel‘s Star Trek fan project.
These strange ones is something between a reptile and a bird actually. Covered with feathers (Yes, it’s not fur, it’s feathers) as birds, but have the muzzle closer to the reptiles. Have two poisonous fangs (size of fangs depending on the subspecies) on the mandible. Egg-laying beings.
They are in close connection with a special kind of trees. This kind of trees has the shapes on it's trunks, which are look very similar to the heads and bodies of this species of predators. So these shapes help the predator to hide perfectly on the trees. As for predatory birds - the are have a plant-like lumps on their head and back, which help spread the seeds and even stimulate flowering of trees.
Since these creatures are extremely poisonous, they have a strange chemical composition of all their flesh. The largest trees grow from the corpses of these predators, as their flesh is poisonous to everyone else, but is an ideal fertilizer for these trees.
Species of these birds have many subspecies, the appearance of which depends on the trees growing in their locations. Different subspecies have a different shape of the skull and a different number of lumps on the head and back. But even within a single subspecies some features of their appearance are unique in each individual.
As for hunting and diet, this strange birds stalks the prey on the tree waiting for their victim comes as close as possible, and finally pounces on it and kills it by poison. No matter how much their victim weighs, the poison is very strong and guaranteed to kill (in a matter of minutes).
