Arix's side of the story
"Too tight!" Arix winced complaining as I wrapped clean linen around his tail. Arix was rubbing his bandaged wrist, flexing his fingers and baring his teeth in discomfort.
"Oh, is the gauze too tight for the big bad warrior?"
I asked, driving the mocking remark through by pulling the linen tighter around his tail, causing Arix to yelp at my sudden motion as I couldn't help but chirping in laughter.
"Luna, ow! You're strangling my tail! I don't want it to fall off due to lack of -OW!- blood flow!" Arix complained again, his tail slightly swaying in place as he tried to stop himself from jerking it away.
"Well, maybe you should take better care of yourself so that I wouldn't have to. And keep your tail still!" I retorted as the weather picked up, raining heavier and soaking the bandage wrapped around his arm, making the ground damp and the air moist.
I fluttered my wings slightly, shaking the droplets of water off and pressed them tightly to my back in futile attempt to keep them dry;
"Hrmph..." Arix grumbled, muttering; "You know, I could do it myself."
"Relax." I chirped again, turning my head to look at him momentarily; "I like helping you."
Arix turned his head to look at me as I everted my eyes back to his tail before lifting his wing to shield me from the downpour. I smiled faintly in response, knowing Arix won't understand my expression I decided to also lean on him slightly in gratitude while loosening the linen slightly in gratitude.
"Better now, Arix?" I asked while cutting away the rest of the dressing and tying it neatly to his tail, nodding in approvement.
"...I suppose." He replied while playing with the wrist bandage distractedly as I laid his tail down gently and playfully punched him in the arm.
"Come on, I'm sure you had worse. Weren't you just bragging the other day about defeating the Icy Gryphon of Arkis? Even you couldn't possibly win unscathed."
"...yeah..."
"Oh, come on. Perk up!"
I raised my hand and placed it over his pauldon gently in attempt to console him.
"I promise I'll tell everyone that you were injured in an epic battle while protecting me, and not by clumsily falling into a dart trap." I chirped again, gently caressing his tail where it isnt bandaged.
"I-it was an epic battle!" Arix replied in a fluster.
"Yes, and I'm sure those darts will think twice before assaulting you again." I rolled my eyes in amusement and leaned closer, almost hugging Arix's arm.
"Give me a smile, you."
Arix pointedly looked away but shifted his wing to still shelter me from the rain, his red scales glimmering slightly from the droplets and moisture.
"That's the best I'll get out of you, huh?" I kept one hand looped around his arm, reaching to rub the scar adorning his bare chest with the other; "Still playing the tough, fierce hero?"
Despite his unphased demeanour, Arix's tail gently tapped at the ground beside us.
Arix turned his head further to hide his smile and I chirped happily, letting him know what a poor job he did concealing it.
"There it is."
