You shouldn't be nervous about this, because you're 100% correct. In fantasy and RolePlay you shouldn't have to be LGBT to play LGBT characters, that's like saying males can't play or create female characters or vice versa. So long as they aren't playing one to be purposefully offensive then there's no issue whatsoever, at least in my books.

I think the whole point of art and fantasy is to pretend, so it doesn't always have to coincide with yourself in real life

These are 4/6 of the main cast of a comic I'm developing. Osmanthus/Ozymandias on the top left (human, can speak with rats), The Rapscallion on the top right (shapeshifter and she's not sure how she has that power but she rolls with it, has something of a god complex and would probably be handled like a villain by another writer. She's just complicated, is all.)

That's Svanhilda on the bottom left (half-dragon, dragonling, dragonkin kind of character. Her mother was an ice dragon), and Suinocu on the bottom right (human, but comes from a race naturally inclined towards empathy and being seers; she/they're kind of a very young channeler.)

I've let the project sit for a long time, but I want to get back in it this summer.
