I learned this afternoon that songwriter extraordinaire Vic Chesnutt had died.
I quickly strummed out an in the moment cover of his classic song Supernatural. Never played it, so I picked three likely chords and just muddled along grafting some melody accompaniments and chord variations from my old song Faux Pas on it - I wasn't doing it conciously. An interesting result, I think. I might use it for my current production, and if I decide to do so, I'll retroactively dub this the prerelease single.
Built a king on compliments, charisma and advertisements
They can still see him shimmer so ephermeral; supernatural
But it ain't supernatural
Supernatural or maybe
It was an out of body experience
I floated around the hospital room on intravenous demerol
No it wasn't supernatural
No it ain't supernatural
Supernatural or maybe
A certain smell, a certain point of view
Brought on a case of the déjà vu
Now is it so inexplicable, no it ain't supernatural
No it ain't supernatural
Supernatural or maybe

No, they're not disturbing. :)
A lot of it has to do with the artist's self-conciousness I think. I don't ever listen to other people's music to check the panning and volumes of the arrangements.. or if anything is amiss. But it's true that most recording technology grabs relatively more emphasis of incidental effects than music.

I have quite a few vinyl records I play very often (here's my prize collection http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3302138/ one album is almost a hundred years old, printed in 1918, the four seasons though it's not shown in that image)
I hate midi, but some people don't have anything better!

Cool lair. I gave most of my records away.. but then, I didn't have anything that antique! Very impressive. :)
I suppose midi is okay for writing. I was really into midi in the early-mid 90s. The problem in my case was that I didn't actually learn much about music at all with that. I was completely helpless with real instruments.
