Where do all these anime expressions come from? Somebody should make a book showing how to draw all of them comprehensively. I'm sure there are others out there somewhere. There must be a source from which all this drawing knowledge comes from. Anime is one thing, but any one anime can only have a finite number of them.
Time to watch more anime I guess...
Most (if not all) of these expressions come from yifftrooper501. This is how every character starts, blatantly copying from reference photos or other people's work until the character starts to find their own voice. Like learning a new visual language from scratch. Whether or not it reflects the character's fully formed personality is hard to say. I think it gets a lot blander and more watered down since I fall into the trap of "I can't use these anymore, it's still stealing!" So the characters tend to become a lot less expressive over time.
I hope one day I will know what I'm doing and not have to do it this way.
